Search isn't my friend I just tried it and get zero results.

I have done it on my 98 Tourer and will show you the directions I used if I can find where I have them stashed Sad

This was posted after I ordered the cover set to rebuild my petcock. I converted mine and it's still that way. I will put the kit in it someday. Many recommend the Pingle as a replacement I just like the original.

I got mine fixed. I just put a gasket on the inner part and tossed all the inside parts. (5 min job) I wish I would have filled the outer piece with a good silicone just incase the gasket breaks. I'll probably do that tomarrow night if I have time. Over 200 miles and it rides great.

So remove the innards and use the stock petcock manually, and this works and is safe? Sorry, I ordered the engine hanger covers the other day, and I doubt they would work or look great with the pingell.

I don't know about safe but it works for me. I've been working 7 days a week with 110 mile round trip ride back and forth so its hard for me to spend a lot of time searching. I seen where this subject has been brought up a lot though. The petcock will be manual this way and is not dummy proof. Every bike I had since I was a kid worked this way. I couldn't believe Honda would alow something made like that. It did last 10 years though.

one word of advice mildew Do NOT USE SILICONE any where there is gas present. gas will disolve silicone and it will end up stuck in one of your floats..so you've just created the very problem you were trying to get away from.

Depends on what you do with the fittings on the petcock

Reattach the vacuum hose so you don't have to think of another way to seal the vacuum nipple on the carburetor.

or    ( I used the method below)

The last step is to plug where the vacuum line used to connect to the rear head.  I like to use a bolt with a sealing washer under the head, but you can also use a vacuum port cap over the stock barb.  Make sure to get a good seal.

Yea, I thought of that but then I thought if the silicone was behind the gasket it shouldn't touch the fuel. Your right though. It too good of a motor to take that kind of chance. I guess the smartest thing to do is buy a pingle. I've never had any luck in the past with jb weld because of the cracking when it gets warm then cold. That's why I thought silicone would be a better choice but if my gasket breaks id be sol

If you used a gasket material that is good for use in gasoline service no need to do anything to the now dry side of the assembly. I'm been running this way for over three yrs. If gasket start to leak out weep hole on bottom of dry side then you know you have a problem. If you want a fuel shut off, get an electric valve and wire it to a keyed 12volt source so as soon as key is turned off valve is closed and no hydro if you forget to close manual valve. Some people have wired these thru the tilt switch so if bike is layed over the valve will shut fuel off.

I've resisted for a few days, but can't hold back anymore:
Should you really start a discussion of "Pet Cocks" by telling us you have 2000 STDs?  I didn't even know there were that many STDs out there!
