My i/s came with a MAGNA POWER battery. I've looked all over this thing and can't find an indication of when it was built. The only numbers i can find anywhere on the case is directly across from the positive post-on top only. NOT ON THE SIDES OR ANYWHERE ELSE. The numbers are 713080. Just like i displayed them here. No . / ' nothin but the numbers. TIA As always-RIDE SAFE

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

What year is the bike and when did you get it? Could say the batt was replaced 4 yrs after the model year and the Magna batt was its replacement. Either way I replaced mine every 5 yrs. They die fast. Any probs with yours?

No no problems. 99 i/s i bought used. Just that i pulled the batt out to clean the cables(looked good by the way) and just thought i'd ask around. I was letting it sit week-week and a half tween rides and would fire right up. Gonna warm up here tommorrow and i want to run these tires down more before i R and R them. I just thought with all this expertise on this board someone might have the answer i seek. As always ride safe

I may be wrong, but I think the reason is that motorcycle batteries are dry until you buy them. That's why no date like car batteries.

Actually, all batteries are starting life dry!

That is the condition you should strive to find when buying a new battery. Acid packs supplied separately.

Problems with buying a new battery that has previously been filled can present problems since the battery needs charging pretty quickly after filling with acid.  Whether or not the people that sell filled batteries do the required charging is conjecture.

If a battery is simply filled and then allowed to sit for an extended period of time, there can be deterioration of the battery with a resultant loss of capacity of charge and expected life of the battery.

There usually is no information supplied regarding when the battery was filled and whether or not it was charged.

The only information you are privy to is how long the battery will be under warranty and whether or not you can get a replacement which is usually pro-rated on the months in use.

So the smart thing to do is buy a battery that comes to you in a dry condition and fill the battery when you plan to install it in the bike right away.

Follow the directions supplied with the battery regarding charging the new battery and you will have installed a battery with the greatest chance of survival and serviceability.

To do otherwise is of questionable merit!
