As some of you all know, I have the jerry rigged, manuel petcock and it's been getting between 34- 38 mpg. After 152 miles it was really sputtering and starving for gas. I proceeded the best I could to the nearest gas station. filled up and problem fixed but 4.3 gallons filled it up. Is this normal? I thought the tank capacity was 5.7 or something like that.

If by Jerry rigged you mean that you turned the oem petcock into a manual one and did away with the vacuum, then you should still have your reserve setting.  Did you switch to reserve?

Hey Mildew , that pretty good , because the farthest I have gone is 140 miles and I had not gone to reserve yet ... So I have never gone to reserve as of yet ...... when I see 140 its gas uptime ... Thanks the Geezer crazy2

at 4.3 gallons, it looks like you just hit reserve. Didn't you turn your fuel valve to reserve at that point?

Tank capacity for a Standard/Tourer is 5.3 gallons INCLUDING a 1 gallon reserve.

Ok, thanks. I didn't think I still had reserve with the manual deal. Yes I did flip to reserve at the gas station and I felt a sudden burst of fuel before I shut it off. Everything is fine then, I read somewhere where the reserve would not work with the manual switch. Priciate the resposes. This fuel thing is all new to me. cooldude

I believe you have it right.  You still have reserve after converted to manual.
