The Twilight Zone

« on: March 03, 2011, 07:32:14 AM »

I was on the VTXOA board and there were 2 Super nice Interstates. I would post the link but don't know how. Anyway it's on Craigslist in Tampa. I believe they belong to the same guy but if they don;t they/he said something that this board has been saying all along...This guy is in Florida and says " better get it now before it gets too hot"!!  I think that just made my decision on the I/S!

They Harley baggers are hot(epecially stopped or barley rolling) but the I/S must be hotter! I guess it must be the flat six opposed to the V-Twin. I've noticed a little heat on my feet behind the heads and it ain't even hot yet! I always thought at least on a wing that the hot  air could be directed to you in the winter   and the opposite in the summer.  uglystupid2

I ride my I/S in the summer in Florida with ATGATT (All The Gear All The Time).  That includes boots, pants, jacket, helmet, and gloves.

I have yet to notice any excessive heat on my legs.  When it's 100 degrees outside, and you are sitting at a stoplight for two or three minutes - all of you is hot, not just your legs.

As stated before, heat on your legs from the I/S should not be an issue unless you are riding in shorts.

I would think that he means before the summer riding begins, because the price of bikes go up. Not because the bike is hot to ride. If he says these bikes run hot, he knows nothing about them.

Hadn't thought about prices going up and will...I was thinking weather.

And Kaiser, I don't wear shorts on a bike Grin With jeans and 70*weather i just noticed a little warmth on my shins with boots, but no biggie! It has to be my feet on OEM pegs positioned right behind the heads. Remember this is my first Valk and I'm used to V-Twins.

Let me give you an example of just how hot these bikes run. I am 5' 8" tall, with an inseam length of 30", when my feet are on the cruise pegs my ankle is right against the valve cover. I can rest my feet on the cruise pegs all day and never have to remove them because my ankles are hot. Ride  safely and be cool.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my 99 IS.
That being said; just wait til it's 95 degrees, you're in traffic, stopped, and the rad fan kicks in. The brand letters realign and spell SAUNA! Same conditions 5 minutes later; boots, jeans, chaps, denim shirt, leather gloves and jacket and you're fine (even the sweat dissappears after a while). I would think that this is the case with any cruising bike (except the non-fan on the Harley).
Sweating and loving it,
Fred.

The fairing vent will let enough air through so you notice it. You will even wonder how you got bug guts on the rider side of the windshield. In the winter or cooler months just cut a piece of foam rubber to fit and slide it in the vent hole and forget it. Oh yeah, heat from my interstate is a non-issue, zilch, notta, none. Never even think about heat because I never notice it. Cool
