In their time, they were a nice means of transportation and cheap. Had one, wish I had it back to go with our Harley Davidson Aramachi. It is the little guy in the middle.

The first bike I rode by myself was a friends Harley Hummer. I think it was 125cc displacement.

Many moons ago a friend of mine had a little harley...something. Gearshift 2 speed, small flat (unround) tires, big ugly gas tank. Can't remember what size it was but we had Suzuki 50's and we could run off and leave him.

My friend had a Hummer. My other friends had either a Royal Enfield or a James. All were 125cc ring a dings.
The Hummer was not as fast as the RE's or James. However, it would beat the Whizzer that i had at the time. The Whizzer four cycle motor in a bicycle kit and later the complete factory motorbike are now high priced collectibles. I wish that i had mine back.

I learned the in's and out's of motorcycling on a Harley Hummer. That bike took a beating and kept on tickin'. Belonged to a neighbor kid, and we rode the tires right off it. Would like to have one just for puttin' around someday

The first motorcycle I have memories of, are riding behind dad on an old James, in Hawaii, in 1958 or so, at 5 years old. If I recall, dad made a pad for the luggage rack, to take us kids for rides. We also had a Model A with a rumble seat. Back then, Hawaii wasn't over-populated, at ALL, and it was a great place to grow up. Dad's looked like this one: My 2nd, 3rd, and 4th bikes were all Montgomery Wards Riverside's, 125cc of brute under-power...but fun!

I'd ride that. That would be fun to tow on a trailer behind the Valk. It'd also be fun to ride up to the local H.O.G. happening on that one cylinder HD. It'd be as cool as the areomachi.

Would like to have one just for puttin' around someday I think, to keep the cliche correct, it would be," took a lickin and kept on tickin", which, of course would explain that particular Harley's model.

Ya know you might have a day or two on ya if you had first hand experience with some of these machines. Yes i do and yes i did. Coolest kid on the block had a hummer-next coolest was the brothers that had the cushman eagles-and one or two others with the whizzers. Good times we are likely not to see again anytime soon!! RIDE SAFE.

Back in the day(circa 1959) my best Bud & I bought brand new machines, his was a Harley Hummer, Mine was a Cushman Eagle. We had saved our paper route money and bought these with our parents blessings. Not sure about the cost of the Hummer, but my Eagle was $419 with a windshield. Back then in Michigan, a person could get a license to ride a scooter or small motorcycle if it was certified less than 5HP at the age of 14. Well, we had 'em, and we terrorized Southern Michigan on those little monsters until we became old enough to get a regular drivers' license. Both of those bikes were "used and abused" but neither one ever needed repairs. I guess they just didn't have enough power to hurt themselves. Ahh yeah, the good 'ol days.

Oh yeah! Back in '59 in Phoenix, the Cushman Eagle was DA BOMB! Then came that sporty Honda 110 and that was that! I also rode a Monkey Ward 49 cc I believe thru San Diego from Imperial Beach to Harbison Canyon, El Cajon e.c.t. With my girl onna back! Had to walk it up some of the canyon elevations sometimes!

My very first bike was a Hummer 125. I rode around Louisville, Ky. Worked for a Dental Lab. Delivered false teeth to Dentist offices and pick up supplies. Rode about a 100 miles a day in all kinds of weather. Rode it for several years until a left turner got me a 32nd and Bdwy and totaled my first love. Well, not really, I remember a little Blond that was easy. I guess she did hum a little.
