DS-0009 ...... # 173

Des Moines, IA

« on: March 08, 2011, 03:26:01 PM »

Went to a eatin joint today for din din.     Well when momma is workin, I got to fend for myself, alright?

Ordered my din din, they served it, I ate, they kept my drink glass full, asked how the food was and all that sheet.

Went to the cash register to pay my bill.    Pulled out a $20, laid it down the gal grabbed it and run it through the register.   As she was trying to give me back my change, I came up with $.45 in change to cover the $.41.   She looked at me with a got look as I told her her, use this to cover the cents.

She responded, well sir:  I already have it rung up and your change is $16.59.   Told her, good, now use my change to cover the change on the bill, I want paper back instead of a pocketful of change.  I was politely told, that was impossible to do.   Asked her why that was and she replied the cash register told me how much change to give you.  I said okay, her is $1.00 in change, could you give me a paper bill for it.   She said no, she couldn't open the cash register again.

Told her okay, but asked her to stay away from the polls in the next election.   She had  a got look on her face as I walked out.

How in the 4377 do these (being nice here-difficult as that is) people ever get jobs in the first place. This actuaaly happened to me some years back-while i was still drivin truck. Friday night somewhere in montana supper time-went into the resturant with a lit ciggarette in my mouth. Walked up to the hostess and she asked me smoking or non smoking. As nice as i could told her i wasn't planning on quitting any time real soon -take a wild guess!!

I did the same thing to a teenage girl at a Taco Bell in Alabama about 15 yrs ago....didn't mean to embarrass her...it was a busy Friday night and they were training her on a register....there was a line of ppl behind me, and the bill was like $7.25....I had handed her a $10 bill and she had already hit the change button... Roll Eyes....handed her a .25 and she gave me a deer in the headlights look....poor thing didn't know what to do...and to make it worse, the ppl behind me started laughing...she'd been having trouble with the customers before us....

Darn Manager should not have had a new girl on a register at supper on a busy night...... Angry

Kids in school are not required to think anymore.  They are given computers and in Buford City Schools, IPads.  Don't need to learn math, the computer does it for them.  They work at restaurants and the "cash register" does all the thinking for them.  We are raising a bunch of poorly educated kids.

THANK! them like they mean it.  They don't teach this in school anymore, along with how to answer

The new cash registers at Mcdonalds, not only tells you how much  change to give them, it shows pictures of the coins.   The schools today don't teach the kids , the life skills they will need in the real world.

Yeah, i upset a young man at McDs the other day, asked if they had a "hot fries" button in addition to the "cold fries" one.............if you order something with extra pickles, do they have a pic of that somewhere or can they just draw a few more pickles on the button?

I ran a catering truck a few years ago. One of the drivers used a calculator at each stop, none of the crews liked to see her pull in. If she was a looker she might have had a chance get away with it.

I watch the history channel on TV and it amazes me that people have become so stupid now a days that they actually believe it is most likely that aliens created the pyramids instead of smart, intelligent, mathematically enlightened Egyptians.  I have told my wife time and time again, our technology is not making us smarter, but dumber.  Think of just your own parents compared to yourself.  My parents made their own sausage, for me it’s just easier to go to the store and buy it, so now my kids will have no clue what real Italian sausage is suppose to taste like, let alone the chemicals they put in it!!

We are so screwed.  The future does not look bright, because our children aren’t.

In all fairness to the waitress,,,,,  During my smoking years I preferred to dine in the "no smoking" section due to having the preference of not wanting smoke around me while I was eating.  The fact that one is a smoker doesn't necessarily mean they don't want to dine in the no smoking section.

It had to be aliens. They did the work humans didnt want to.
How could they be more intelligent than us? They counted with rocks.
I was at wally-world and gave trhe chick a 20 for a 18 purchase. She said "outta 20?" and I said "Nope, outta 100".  She started giving me change for 100. I straightened her out and told her she needed a raise so she'd be more careful.

Some establishments do not allow cashiers to change what change they are giving once entered into the register - this is to avoid "change scams".

I heard locally the other day that they are no longer teaching cursive writing in the schools. Don't know the reason.

Got told this the other day in an autoparts store:
"If it's not in the computer we don't need to know about it."

I guarantee what I needed was in their computer, they just had no capability of finding it.

Back in my early wrenching, we went to the parts house and asked for a water pump for a 55 Chevy and they walked back to the back and pulled it off the shelf.

Now you go in and tell them that and they have to enter Chevrolet, then the model, then the year, then the area it goes on, like motor, transmission, rear axle and etc, then the part.

If nothing comes up they don't have it.

The other day I was chasing parts for the kids shop, and we needed a distributor cap.   I told him the part #, but no, he had to have all the above information. Gave it to him for a 56 Ford Fairlane, NO FIND.   I knew he had it cause i could see it on the shelf.

I said okay, I need another cap, it is for a Ford, F150 truck, 292 engine, 4 speed, 2wd, ignition, presto, he found it on the shelf I was looking at.

Never told him the difference.  That is the way they are trained now, they don't have to know the most popular replacement parts, look em all up on the computer.

Must be the passenger car is not as popular as the truck in replacement caps.

When I picked up my darkside tire I was doing a cash and carry. They started with the questions on the computer screen - name, address, phone, year make and model of vehicle - they had to call the manager to figure out what to do when Honda Valkyrie wasn't one of the options.  2funny

In my visits to the concession stand at my kids’ high school ballgames I never give correct change. If the young person waiting on me reaches for the calculator I politely say “No, try to figure it in your head”. They look at me funny but generally do figure it in their head. If they struggle I tell them the amount so it doesn’t embarrass them too bad. But, I also wait long enough as to make a point.

For those that correctly figure the change, I compliment them and hope it makes an impression on them to keep doing it.

I preached to my kids to figure in their heads what their change should be in any cash transaction. My daughter now considers it a challenge to beat the cash register in figuring the change back.

I also make it a point to compliment a young person anytime I see them do the “right thing”. I think young people need positive acknowledgment from others, not just family, when they do right.

In reality we have to blame our self.  We all have given our government too much power over our lives, to the point that we trust them to raise our own children when we all know how good the government does things.

I’m going to do some bragging over my kids.  Before my two girls were ten years old, they were able to figure out how much 15% of our food bill should be the waitresses tip.  Since I was raised in a restaurant, I know how important that is for a waitress/waiter.  Oh, and yes, they can make their own change!  My oldest works at KFC and she’ll get customers that give her change thinking that it’s going to screw her up,  it never does!!  I love my girls…..

Here is my DUMMY Story, it might be hard to follow but I will try and get to the point ASAP.

A few years back when I was in High school (sum almost 27 years ago now) I was running around in my first car 1968 mustang coupe (it was Blue, this will become important shortly). Well my starter, I think it was the factory original finally gave up and I went to the local Kragen auto parts store close to my parents’ house. I walked in told the counter person (happened to be a mid 30 something MANAGER of this particular store). He proceeded to ask me the normal questions to figure out what the part number was.
Year = 1968
Maker = Ford
Model = Mustang
Automatic or Standard transmission= Automatic
A/C or not = factory A/C
Power steering = Yes
Coupe/Convertible/Fastback = Coupe (notchback common alternate street name for that body style That also confused him)
Standard/GT/GTA/Shelby = Standard OH and its Blue... Evil Evil

He looked at me and said Oh ok thank you but I have not gotten to that question yet. I just stood there and told him ALL 1968 small block fords with automatic transmissions have the same FARKING starter (or at least they will all work in it) I think I was 16y/o I could not believe he actually was thankful I told him what color the car was,, NO he was not yanking my chain 2funny He really thought it made a difference because he looked for that question in the onscreen software.

I handed a local girl a saka???? dollar and a half dollar a few years ago, she went to the manager

I'd forgot about this episode several years ago.

I was off duty in civvies with my iron in my jeans waist in the rear.

Walked into a fast food and placed an order.

Handed her a $2.00 bill. She said be right back.   Took her forever.  Finally figured out why when the local PD came through the door with weapons drawn and pointed at me.

She called the local PD telling the dispatcher I was trying to pass counterfeit money and had heat on my hip.

Her manager, just shook his head, handed me my food and said sorry for the disturbance and slowly backed away.

The next day I walked in in uniform, ordered my food.  Couldn't get anyone to wait on me except the manager.    I still laugh about it to this day.

In the briefing room, I was razed about being a pistol totting fake $$$$ passer.

If everyone who goes blank trying to do math while someone is in their face, or who isn't good at spelling, or who can't name all the great lakes is blocked from voting, we'd resemble communist Russia too much for my tastes.

Besides, the founding fathers never required an aptitude test to be able to vote.  You just had to ne a Male, and a land-owner.
