Those of you pulling a trailer with your Valkyrie, how does it effect your fuel millage and handling? I ride two up so that would be a factor also I would think. Please tell me your experiences and advise.

I tow a kayak trailer behind my valk. It tends to make the bike stand up much quicker comeing out of a turn. When I towed the same trailer behind my goldwing I didn't know it was there. It makes the valk feel just like it has a car tire on it. I have two valks, one with car tire and one without. Doesn't seem to bother the fuel mileage too much. My valks are both 97s and lack the fuel mileage of the newer valks anyway.

I pull a home made trailer and I see the gas mileage drop to about 26 to 28 MPG from 34 to 36 MPG at highway speeds. It doesn't seem to affect the turning of the bike since I have a swivel hitch, butu I do feel it when I brake. It takes more to stop the bike.... No problem in the rain... In general, I don't even know it's back there....

Hi Mitch , I run with my Harbor Freight Taj Mahal and it pulls great .... just remember to put most of the weight over the axel other wise it will fish tail on you around 55 or 60 mph .... before I went Darkside I ran always 40 lbs up front and 44 in the rear now thats with two up and the trailer .... I run 24 lbs on the 8 inch trailer tires because I know they will heat up maybe 2 or 3 lbs in the summer ... and 25 lbs when its cooler .... if you over inflate your trailer will be bouncy , no need for it ... and I extended the tongue so I feel it tracks great .... I have pulled doing 75 mph but not very often mostly 60 - 65 mph , whats the rush , right .... and do not connect those chains to your bike because if something goes wrong YOU DON'T WANT TO BE CONNECTED TO YOUR TRAILER , TRUST ME .... have fun and build your own and see for yourself just keep an eye in the mirror, if it fish tails from side to side , pull over and make sure the weight is over the axel , and don't forget your tongue weight , I have a small ice chest to help out with that it sits in a tray in front of the carrier .... and yes your mileage will suck alittle with the trailer not much ...... Thanks Old Geezer Richard

My brother and I both pull a trailer and we've got the same bike. Now, if he's got the trailer and I don't, he uses about a dollar more to fill up when our tanks done, but our trailers are very aerodynamic too

Hi Mitch: I have pulled a "Combi Camp" tent trailer for 4 years now and no problems. The trailer weight is 300-400 lbs but has a tendance to try move the back end of your bike around a bit in a corner. I found that it corners so much better under quite a bit of power. A little slower off the line and try use your tranny when braking as much as possible.
I found that I shift a whole lot more. I really try keep the RPM @ 3000
Other than that, it's a blast

Mileage will drop 4-8 mpg depending on throttle use and headwinds. 2-up on my IS pulling a Neosho 14 cf. Can't tell its there most of the time.

I've pulled a Uni-Go trailer a few times. Mileage drops by about 1 mpg on the slab. In town it can take a little more, but not much. Most of the time I pull it, I keep checking my mirrors to make sure it's still back there!! I will note that the Uni-Go is a good bit more narrow than most trailers. It sits right behind the bike so almost no wind gets to it. It adds almost no drag.

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

Ours is a home made from Smokin Joe. I got mid 20's pulling trailer out to Sturgis. 2 up with loaded bags. Filled the tank about every 100 miles. We cruised around 80 mph and had alot of Dakota winds. What really sux is the resv. Nocked me down to 8 miles. Not a good feeling to run out infront of a station full of bikes. Carry a small resv can of gas, if theres room. Due to milage issue we are not taking it this year. Just packing lighter. Will use it in the area for some other rallies tho.

Two issues. I've pulled my Roll-A-Home 8K miles around the country. At 425 lbs loaded, I get 25 MPG at 65 MPH. Last Sta I pulled the same trailer behing the '05 Wing. No MPG's figured yet but, It pulled much better and felt more stable in the turns. When I got home I looked at the rear end of the bikes and took some measurements. The hitch ball is 16" high on the Valk and 13" high on the Wing. The Wings "pull point" is even with the rear axle. The Valks is above the axle. Maybe the higher pull point makes the trailer try to tip the bike more.
