Beeeutiful day here in the ozarks today. Got the phat ghurl outa the garage geared up gassed up and took off. Run a stretch of 2 lane i hadn't been on before in any kind of vehicle. Cruisin nice and easy about 5 over the 55 posted limit. Gentle twistys rollin hills sun behind me. Slight up hill gentle left curve-thecross road in a slight dip below the crest of that small hill. A square bale of hay came off of something well before i got to it. Hard on both brakes-DID NOT LOCKUP-but the hard braking put me into the loose hay with pea gravel underneath. Oh yeah!! Got real exciting there for a second or to corrected the wobble-wide spot on left-no oncoming traffic-hard left into wide spot youy back towards road-shut bike-thanked god for the help-pulled off hrlmet leather jacket gloves-took a really deep breath-put gloves back on and cleaned hay off the road. Did not want another biker to go thru what i just did. The 2nd or 3d one might not have come out so well. Just pay attention out there. cooldude And as always RIDE SAFE angel

In a similar vein, now that most of the country is starting to thaw out, keep in mind, all that sand, salt, magnesium chloride, whatever that they spread out a week after the ice and snow his is mostly STILL out there, usually in corners and intersections, just where it can make things the most interesting...

So, although I know we're always paying full attention while riding, be aware of that sand in the corners and coming up on intersections even more than usual until we get some good rains to flush that crud out!

Quite a few years back, I was leading a group ride through some nice twisty back roads.  I was shocked to see a teenager mowing tall, wet grass next to one of the tighter turns, and spraying that mess right onto the road!   Shocked

Fortunately, I saw him, and was able to slow the group, and avoid the slop.  I just hope no one else passed by there after he left, and got caught by surprise.

Added to the sand, around here we get a nice day and a good frost the night before. You get out on the road and it is clear UNTIL you go into a corner that has been in the shade all morning, still frosty and icy. Spring can be a slippery time to ride.

You have one of my favorite roads to ride HWY 137, I grew up on that road and still know it well. Be safe there is a lot of gravel on all roads right now.
