Thanks to all of you that replied to an earlier post of mine reguarding Rotella 6T and noise.   In those replies many suggested Mobil 1 15w-50, others Amsoil.   Just for my clarification, are those using
Amsoil using the 10w-40 or the 20w-50 motorcycle oil?  I can not find the Mobil 1 15w-50 at any of the Wal Marts in my area, (around St Pete, Clearwater, FL)  where else is a good place to purchase at a decent price?  Thanks for you help and advice.

Honda reccomends 10-40w for just about every climate and condition. I use Amsoil 10-40w, and it definitely made things quieter. You can find a distributor in your area by going to their website, and they do offer a limited distributorship that gets you 20-30% off (it costs $10 for 6 months or $20 for a year), but if you buy just 1 case (12 quarts), you'd save about $30, so it's a good deal. I am going to change filters, from the OEM Honda to a Pure One...

Kilroy: Remember that the term "Energy Conserving" cannot show up on the API service rating for the oil. Here in AZ it's warm just like FL. I've used 10WX40, 15WX50 and 20WX50. It's all good.

Maybe you have a Pepboys, O'Rielly's or Autozone in your area, they usually sell mobil 1 15-50.

Amsoil lists 10w30, 10w40, 20w50 and 60w motorcycle oils as well as numerous other fluids, greases, etc, filters.. they offer a dealer or consumer only membership..
Go to Amsoil.com,  if you need a referral use #1460865 which is my number and of course gets me a kickback (1 %), though you may not need one.. BTW I use 10w30 most of the time, unless I'm headed to AZ, then I'll go to the heavier oils..

In my neck of the woods, Walmart has just about all of the Mobil 1 formulas EXCEPT the 15w-50. It is however available at O'Riellys. Every once in a while they have it on sale for $4.00 & change per qt.

I am currently using Motul 10 W 40 blend in my 97 Tourer-- thinking of changing over to Mobil 1 turbo diesel 5 W 40 synthetic oil?

Would this be a good choice?

FYI -- It is currently on sale at O'Reilly's for $19.99/gallon

  You can find the Mobil-1 15w-50 Silvercap @ Super Wal-Mart on US 19 in Pinellas Park (just bought some) It's down by the Florida Highway Patrol on the East side of the road. I need to get you out and ride soon? I switched to that because of the cost of the Amsoil, I'm quite pleased, no complaints. I hated the Rosmella for the reasons listed and I couldn't stand the smell. I can tell no differance between the Mobil-1 and the much more expensive Amsoil. Not knocking Amsoil, just the price.

oil, wow! what a subject that has been over the years. i have tried everything and i ride all over the country, all temps. all dry or humid climates. i did mobile red cap, i liked it till they took the zinc and phosphorus out of it (we need that) then went to rotella diesel blend (outstanding oil for bikes) but then it came to me that i change oil every 3,000 miles. it aint in there long enough to go south, so spending big bucks on fancy synthetics was probably a huge waste.

i use inexpensive delo 400, 15W45 now. it is a superior blend intended to keep a diesel in top shape. works very good is 1/3 the cost of synthetics, and has bocu zinc and phosphorus.

the oil argument is as old as oil i think. everyone should use what they want to use (your gonna anyway, right) i just can't see spending hard earned money for no reason. honda reccomends a good 10W40 and tries to charge you a bundle of money for "their brand" ever seen a honda refinery around ??

10W40 valvoline will make your valk run  200,000 miles if you change it every 3,000 miles. use good filters (another silly argument) i use OEM honda, or if i'm feeling blingy a K&N chrome one. but i refuse to pay out the behind for stuff like amzoil (a good oil to be sure) when it just isn't nessesary.

   Kilroy, just my 2 cents worth. After reading all of the above and then some, changed oil yesterday using Mobil 1 15-50. Our Wallmarts don't carry it but found at Autozone. Not cheap. But, took it for a ride after and what everybody has said, REALLY quieted the transmission down. Now, I must find a place that discounts it for next time. Thanks to all of those that have contributed to this subject.

I'd like to know where to find Mobil 5w40 Turbo Diesel oil. Anyone in the mid-Atlantic region have a suggestion?
