Author Topic: March Wrench Party?  (Read 2932 times)

Per RainMakers idea, I'm starting a new thread about a March wrench party.  Is there enough interest for either day?

We can offer our place for the wrench party if needed.  I do have 1 jack (no adapters), garage, most tools.  Might need a torque wrench.  We've been spoiled lately with all the wonderful grub at the last few wrench parties.  We would be roughing it.  Maybe a box of donuts.  Anything else would be bonus.  Just an offer.  If its bad timing or anyone else wants to thats fine also.  Just let me know so we can plan.

Old thread -  http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,25983.0.html

I am unaware of anything I need to do to my I/S other than wash and wax but will try to stop by if on the 26th. Thanks for offering to host.  I just got a used u-joint from Pinwall for $50 so will be ready in case of problems in that area on the way to GOTF.

RM, It's time to rebuild my petcock and i hear that you found a kit that did not contain the metal components for considerably less than the Honda kit.  True?  If yes, where do I get a kit?

Rear brakes isnt too hard.  Rear tire is a little harder.  Would have to remove it obviously, and unless you have one on a wheel with you, you would have to find someplace to mount it.  Only place I knew for sure has closed.  I heard Discount Tire will do it and they are just across the road.  Anyone have clarification on who would mount a CT on a rim in my area around Corinth, Lewisville, Denton area?

Discount Tire at I-35E and Swisher mounted mine and Victor's (SixGuns).  They can't balance.  If you want it balance, we'll have to run it up to Cycle Center of Denton.  Or, you could just use Dyna Beads or my choice, Ride-On compound.

Go with the Ride-On, I need to get my Dyna Beads out so I can add the Ride-on.  Dyna Beads don't help with punctures like Ride-On does.

So is someone going to bring a jack adapter? I would also like to put a CT on, I also need to check and lube my splines. I'll bring some dyna beads, and some Bel-Ray waterproof grease for those that need it. I also ordered some Patchboy valves for myself and whoever needs them.

If you're buying a tire from Discount, call ahead to make sure they will have it on hand when you show up.

I highly recommend the Goodyear Assurance Triple-Tread.  As far as I know, all who have tried it are happy.

Ditto on the Goodyear Triple Tread AND the Ride On product.

Have used in the past -and currently use - both with great satisfaction.   cooldude

P.S.   DO call ahead to verify if they have your choice in stock.

The Faulken Ziex ZE 512s are pretty popular with the Darksiders and about half the price of the Goodyear TT.

205/60-16 is the most commonly used and closest to oem circumference so rpm:mph won't change noticeably.  55 series will lower the seat a bit and increase rpm to speed / lower speed to rpm.  65 series will raise the seat a bit and lower rpm to speed / raise speed to rpm.

Some people get away without the nut cage mod with the 55 & 60 series, but I'd go ahead and do it.  I don't think you could get away without doing it on the 65 series.

Did Discount Tire say that about a tire you take to them or purchase from them with a disc-less wheel in your hand, a pocket full of cards/cash, and a really long face?   Sad

You're right about 195s.  There are VERY few options in a 195/65-16.   Wink

Did you call and ask if they'd mount a car tire on a motorcycle rim?  I just walked into Firestone in Allen with a tire and a rim and they mounted it.  The service manager asked what the rim was off of and I told him a Honda Valkyrie, he said he never heard of a Valkyrie and asked the tire changing guy if he could change it.  The tire guy said "oh, a Valkyrie motorcycle, yes, I can mount it". 20 minutes and $20 later I was on my way home.

I was at the Discount Tire in Highland Village for one of the cages and talked to the guy (sport biker) that mounted my darkside tire. I mentioned that I was very pleased with it. He said unfortunately that was the last one he could do because a memo came out advising techs not to mount car tires on bike rim any more... Wasn't sure if it was just that store or more widespread.

Tell them that the car tire you are buying is going to be mounted on a trike. I can't see them refusing to do that.       uglystupid2
