Got un-plugged from cable last year, tired of paying for infomercials, etc. Now they're taking away my analog stations and going digital. We don't even have a converter box yet. So, I'm living in the 20th century. Been looking for an antenea to recieve uhf and vhf and converter boxes. Geeeez. It's like going to Baskin Robbins. Too much to chose from. Any suggestions. What are ya'll using. Course most of you probably have cable or satalite, but for the few that are where I'm at let me know what works (or doesn't) for you, please.

Well it sounds like you already have an antenna, so as long as it picks up your stations your O.K. on that part. Now for receiving the digital signals you will have to either buy the converter box or update your T.V.. The reason is that the older T.V.'s can't receive the digital signal so it has to be converted through the box. Plus as far as I know there isn't an antenna that converts the signal.

I went to Sears and bought the DTV box made by Dishnetwork. It had good reviews. I needed one for the RV. You will be surprised, I got like 20 extra stations when I hooked it up. You will get like 5-01,5-02,7-03,7-05. In other words multiples of the same basic channel. You won't need a new antenna, just the converter box. About $60 if I recall, $20 after you give them your $40 rebate card that you will get in the mail once you apply.

I have one of those cheapy indoor antenneas that didn't work worth a nickle to begin with. I'm thinking of an outdoor unit and the DTV box you mentioned by Dishtv.

I bought a converter box at RadioShak, running it off rabbit ears (old ones). Still get 4 extra channels... still nothing worth watching on the TV, but I have more of it.

Yep, just rabbit ears and the converter box is working great for me I bought 1 of each of the two that Radio Shack is selling. Didn't want the remotes in adjoining rooms fighting with each other.

Stormrider,
I have three different types...I have cable wire pre run into all rooms with TV's. I have one coverter at each tv. I hooked my rabbit ears right into the splitter in the garage after disconnecting the cable input and get great reception plus an additional 15 channels...all of the nationals give you a weather channel, great for checking weather condtions for riding with out firing up the web....as far as any difference between converters...I see no difference.
Any questions feel free to ask...

I have had OFF AIR HD TV for about a year and I don't regert it. I told Comcast to bit me, they will never be hooked in my house as long as I have a breath in my body. I have been playing with this for a while. It is very EZ and cheap in the long run. Now for rabbit ears, you should get a preamp., and you will get better reception. (boost the signal) They are cheap at RadioShack. What I did is install A Hi-Gain UHF antenna, some people call them HD antennas. I did my whole setup for little over $150, not including the DTV converter. I get a bunch of channels analog and digital and the digital is true SD and HD signals. I am north of Detroit and I pickup as far south a Cincinatti Ohio and and far east as Toronto Canada. What I did was attached two 10ft poles to the house with a rotor on top of that then the Hi-gain antenna with a preamp on it. I get about a 70 mile range. As of now I get 18 digital channels and probibily more after June 12 and a bunch of analog channels. I understand Canada is not changing till 2011. I got most of my stuff from SolidSignal, they had some of the best prices and in stock with quick delevery. Below is some web sites to get your coupon and information. Also is a web page so you can determine what channels you can get and what direction. Just fill in your address and zip code, hit enter. at the top you will see ground level map and it will show direction.
