Author Topic: Interstate gas tank sending unit  (Read 970 times)

I was told that the wires coming from the sending unit on the bottom of the tank, should be pointing towards the back of the tank.

Is this true? I have been unable to tell from anything in the manual or fiche.

Yes, it will test your patience to get it in, but that's how it's designed to be installed. It will go in easier in a different position, but won't read correctly. Just be certain to use a new O-ring gasket when installing, you don't want to find out afterward that you should have used one.

So it does look like someone installed it incorrectly in the past. That's why it doesn't move, and then reads 2/3-1/2 when I'm empty.

I'll leave it for the next owner to fix, at least I have identified the problem. I looked it over last year on a Valk ride, getting help from others, but I thought I saw the wires out the back side, but it was only the tie down. Now that the tank is off my wrecked bike, I can see it's mounted 90* off.
