rode to work last night, got off at noon today, decided I would ride to a fave buger place in oregon for lunch, several bikes there today, I am standing havi9ng a cigg, one, two, three fellas come over asking the useualk questions, ~IE: what is it? is it fast, does it really have 6cyls.... ect ect.....
fella speaks up, no way its faster than myt 2010 road king.....
I reach into my pocket pull out a nickle,  tell him " I will put up my title against your title in a race, or~ if I can balance this nickle on my my engine start it and crank it up to 3500 rpm. AGAINST you being able to balance the same nickle and  just turn your scoot over it dont even have to start."  " the rest of you can bet me a buck.......

I cam home with 6 bucks and a happy feeling that anouther HD wussy wouldnt put up so I got to shut him up.

Dont intend on bursting the HD bubble I am sic of the snobbish ones that think they have the ONLY decent machine. Evil

Ive done the nickle trick many times......never won any money at it....good job.  That Road king could be a close call if it has all the go fast stuff and the rider knows what he is doing........just sayin, spend enough on them Harleys and they can give a stock Valk a run

Showed a friend the "Nickel trick" today and he's lookin for a Valk.
One of my favorite stories, (Read here?) was about a Harley mouthpiece who wanted to race. I think the story originated in Philly. The Harley guy said from here to where and Mr.Valk said, How about Denver.  crickets ensued.
Jess, thats at the strips. See ya in Denver.
I love that one.

You can spent literally thousands of dollars to make a Harley fast, maybe even faster than a Valk, but how long do you think those fast HDs will last?

Making more power out of an HD causes a lot of heat,...heat will destroy the motors lubricant, thus greater friction that in turn creates excessive wear.

To make a current HD motor better (more torque/HP), you'd need to reduce internal friction, then increase the capacity for the motor to shed heat before serious modifications can be performed to increase performance with any semblance of reliability.

Loud pipes are out (how sad), to be replaced by a 2 into 1 ehaust system to scavenge spent gases. Carbs are also stone age (no more S&Ss). Two valve heads could be replaced by four valves. And the single crankpin design is also outdated (no more "potatoe, potatoe" sound).

The V-Rod motor is a viable alternative but the traditionalists are avoiding those almost as bad as they did the Buells.

I have said it many times on here before... be careful.

I have a buddy in Racine with a Dyna Low Rider that has a wicked 124" motor in it.  Yeah... he had stOOpid money in it.  But I have seen Dyno slips at 157 HP, and he claims more now.  I have seen drag strip times in the low 10's and that's on stock tires.

AND I heave ridden the beast several times, and I am here to tell you it's F'in FAST.  now... I don't WANT it.  It corners like crap.  It's too loud for my tastes.  But it'll EAT a Valk.  I'd bet it'd eat a blown Valk for that matter.

Just be careful offering to race for pinks.  That is unless you can afford to simply give your beloved Valk away.  Race for lunch or beers instead.

Been around bikes for 35yrs, raced on many tracks in the midwest  stock bike sounds like a stock bike especially a v-twin and a 124ci engine doesnt look like a stock one, its all in the details, I dont race my valk just willie nilly, but I damn sure aint gonna get slammed on it for being a honda..... the nickle test shuts em up pretty quickly.....lol

2 outa 3 "hog-riders" respect the valk and seem to really like em ~of those I let ride mine 3 ~outa 4~sport cruiser riders like 'em and know the abilities of them, 5~outa~5 vmax riders just smile and wave.......hahahahah

I love my valk because its not a garage queen I already have over 2k miles on it since jan 1 this year

Most HD's and most Valks... you're good to go.

Every once in a while... you get that super crazy ass HD guy with a $25K bike with $25K more in engine that'll wide the road with you.

I always offer to race my buddy to florida.  He never bites.  He has an Ultra-Classic too, and his Ol'Lady has a V-Rod.  They share rider co-rider duties on the Ultra.  She's about 6" taller than he is.

I use that line (Or a variation thereof, usually "From here to Anchorage and back") with zip-splat riders...

Back in the early '70s a friend of mine had an Electra Glide.  Every once in a while one of the 900 Kawasaki guys would want to race him.  We lived in Plattsburgh NY.  He would respond- Sure from here to Albany (NY about 200 miles).  Their response- That is a long ways 200 miles!  His response- I mean Albany, Georgia. (about 1500 miles).  He never got a single race.  He was not kidding either.  He would have started from wherever they were at the time and headed for Georgia.
Last time I spoke to him about that bike it was going on 200k.  Last year he put 80k on his latest Road King.  He just traded that in on a new Ultra whatever and plans more miles this year.  80k averages out to over 200 miles a day.
Remember those old Jap bikes?  They were quick, fast, but most didn't handle well and anything over 2 hours and you would be hurting.  Also the really fast ones sucked a lot of fuel.

Like others have said.  Be very careful what HDs you want to go title for title with.  I have a supercharged valk and there are those out there that can eat my lunch.  Some of those guys like sleepers too.   cooldude

Your safe from 90% of em' with a stock valk, but there is always that one in 1000 that has had dump truck loads of cash spent on them. There is a modified Night Train here that will take stock Valks easily.  Also there is one here that has a 145 cubic inch engine with a hidden nitrous shot.  The jugs give it away right off the bat, but if someone didnt know (and most folks don't know) what they were looking at it could reach out and bite them.  Now, neither of those two are good for more than bar hopping.  They dont stay together long enough to do real riding, but never the less, they are mean.
