Has anyone tried the Shinko 757 tire (180/70/16) for the rear? I have found a price of $139. that sounds like a good price?

I had a set of those.... spares on the shelf.  They were voluntary recalled and replaced with a new set of Metzlers (for free - including shipping).  I originally wanted the 747's in 09, but the front of that was recalled and I then got a set of 757's in 2010, and a few months later... recalled.   I would steer clear of their cruiser/tourer tires for awhile til they get it right.     The problems were delamination.....

Santa, I bought a Shinko front tire from JPCycles. About 2 months after I got it JP sent me a notice that the Shinko was being recalled & gave me a Metzler ME880 to replace it. I hadn't put it on yet but if I had they said they would reimburse me for the swap out.
Must of been a pretty serious problem with Shinko for JP to pull such a CYA move!

I just took one off my IS with over 13k miles on it never had a problem. It was one of the ones they recalled. The new model has been completely rebuilt from what I understand. Shinko has been making tires for a long time. I have one of the new models but have not installed it yet. I have no connections with Shinko but hate seeing any company blacked ball over a recall. Looks like they have sought to correct problem. Just my opinion.

Santa,
The Avons are good handling tires, but I've had several sets were the rears couldn't even get 10K. I switched to Metzlers on one of my Valks, and now at 10K the rear has about 50% of tread left.

Prices between the Avons and the Metzlers are comparable, and both are far superior to Shinkos and Bridgstones.

Did more research and found that the 757 journey that replaced the 747 which I mention earlier is no longer available. It has been recalled and will be replaced with SE790 Journey sometimes this Spring. I have one of these (757) setting on the shelf at the house. I ran a couple of the 747's without any problem and like the tire. I will see about having the 757 replaced. Hopefully Shinko will get it right this time. I will try their new tire when it is availble. For now I will use Metzlers. I remember in 2004 when Avon had a recall on their 150/80/17 tire.

I wear out Metzlers on the rear quicker than Avons, neither gets more than 7K...

I really liked the Avons but I couldn't get more that 6-8k out of the rear.

So I switched to E3's on the rear and I'm getting 10-12k.

I've been getting 16-18k out of the Avon on the front.

I was going to try the Shinko 757 on the front this time to save some $$$$. But it was recalled before I had the cash (probably a good thing).

I thought about the Metz for the front but Metzler is the one brand that my tire guy can't get.

So I went with the E3 for the front this time because it was a little cheaper than the Avon.

I haven't had a chance to scuff it in yet, so I don't have an oppinion one way or the other about it.

My front Metzler cupped and sounded like rumbles strips in the corners. My new Avon does not do that. I got about 7000 out my my rear Metzler.

Same here with the one set of Metzlers I tried about 7000 and I could not take the sound and feeling in the corners so I took them off. I have had better luck with the Bridgestones and they are cheaper. Last one lasted a little more than 16K front. Don't use one on the rear anymore. I went Dark side.
