I ride alone 99% of the time...I've only had to ride folks on the back of the bike a few times.....I do pack the trunk on the I/S full when I go on a long ride, just not the same thing as having a passenger on the back.....

I was wondering if the Progressive 412HD's would work ok instead of the pricier 440's??......and I can't remember if the OEM shocks are 12", 12.5", or 13" stock??....I hate to spend a lot more $$ for something that won't help me.....anything would beat the OEM's I have now with 84,000 miles on them......

I'm thinking that I also need to change out the two timing belts for piece of mind.....

Have you tried adjusting the original Interstate shocks up? Or if that doesnt pan out look for some low miliage take offs. Those shocks have a good record in my book. Also double check your shock bushings top and bottom if you havent already. G/L

Yes... check your bushings, if you haven't ever changed them out, I'm sure they're wore slap out,
and it is an easy fix.

I have 13" HD 440's, I like them... not so much before I got the HD springs.

People really like Works Performance shocks, I find myself wishing I had tried them, that's what
you should get  Wink ...

You ride plenty fast, and in the mountains, you need good action, not just a lack of bottoming out.

Here's some old threads about 412s...

I've replaced the shock bushings at least once......I'm not really saying that there is a problem with the OEM's......just that new shocks should ride better than the old ones that are 11 yrs old and have 80,000+ miles on them......

Maybe it's like not knowing how much BETTER a new mattress is compared to the old one after the fact??..... cooldude

Stanley, my stockers were shot right at the same mileage as yours. Set on 5 and they still were mushy.  Shocked

I haven't really noticed a "mushy" ride....I think I'm going to need some new ones just to know if the OLD ones are loose...... Cheesy

I did have Progressives put in the front a few years ago....with a 15W oil.....I liked the stiffer front end after that...it made hard stops much better without the nose dive!.... cooldude

STOCK SHOCK HEIGHT IS 13 INCHES.  STOCK  SHOCK BUSHINGS ARE WORN OUT AT 11-12 THOUSAND MILES.  BUY YOURSELF A PAIR OF STOCK BUSHINGS FOR THE BOTTOM, AN ORDER YOURSELF A SET OF POLYURATHANE BUSHINGS FOR THE TOP FROM DARREL AT XF6-CUSTOM.COM.  I USE THE BUSHINGS THAT HE MADE, AND PERSONALLY THEY ARE AWSOME. cooldude cooldude
