Did you already cut the piggies about 1/2 inch or so away from muffler? (save those piggies - just in case)....

Did ine on an i/s. When you get that exhaust tip off you is gonna be looking at a snake pit. It will be crystal clear when you get the tips off. 2funny We call them piggies. with a little thought you can cut them off flush with a hacksaw. Then your standard size drill bit works just fine. Roll Eyes Did the piggy cut ion mine-drilled the baffle with 3 3/8 holes on each side. Picks up the sound a little bit but you go from 3 screws holding the exhaust tips on to just 2-ain't lost nothing yet with 2 screws holding and matbe got over 2500 miles on that mod. Hope this helps. crazy2 Look at the shop page-this procedure is all layed out in easy to follow steps. coolsmiley RIDE SAFE.

If your exhaust is mint ....I've got a set with the piggies cut and their little eyes drilled out with 36" straight cut stacks.... $100.00 plus your exhaust .I paid around $150 for the stacks at Knoxville Mack Trucks.

If you don't take Joe's offer and do decide to cut and drill, I'd say to just do the first baffle you can reach with a standard drill bit... Thats what I did and its a nice rumble and a bit loud , but not too much... If its still not enough, then go ahead and get a longer extension and see how that sounds.. Also i found out- because of a busted bolt, you can kinda tune then by making the first 3 holes larger or adding additional holes. ( I broke off the nut welded on the inside) Truck stacks also make a big difference, I went the cheaper route and just got the 18" ones that just replace the original tips and slip and bolt on by drilling 2 holes and using the original bolt holes and bolts for the original tips. They are about $40 bucks each...

Just my 2 cents..

i drilled out the baffles to realize later that was a mistake (I think).  Just drilling the end baffles were not enough for my liking so I drilled the front baffles with a long bit.  Then addtional holes next to the baffles which sounded raspy and too out of tune.  I realized that drilling the baffles were a mistake, because drilling holes next to the baffles could result in a fix to bring it back to normal if desired.  So I plugged the baffle holes (original exhaust holes) which then made the sound way better to my ears.  this was my attempt to make better noise at a low cost which worked and still provides enough back pressure to not have to change carb settings.

In the future I will be making costlier mods including stacks and changeable glass packs.

Knock the plugs back out, put on the straight cut truck stacks and add a pair grumpy's tips, makes sweet music!  Hoser

Thanks Joe, but I'll have to pass. Already cut the pigs.
Planning to drill the baffles 5/8 (if I can find the right bit). Do I really need one 12" long for just the rear baffles?
Thanks to all who replied, DG.

Stick a screw driver in there and you will see how deep they are.

I did mine 8 yrs ago. sounded nice. 2 yrs ago i cut 4" of exhaust off and added stacks. So much better now. They can here me from 5 miles away.

Harbor Freight sells a kit of 3- 1/2, 9/16, 5/8  24" wood drill bits for around 10 bucks. They worked ok but where pretty much dull when done. But for 10 bucks who cares. Drilled mine like that. Sounded ok but it really sounded better when I added the 18' turnout tips. Didn't replace the whole part just replaced the tips. About $125.00 cheaper that stacks and all the difference is the seam that you really have to look for. ( the factory tips have a seam )

This is mine with the piggies cut and just the rear baffles drilled.......

Honda Valkyrie - LED turn and tag light modificationspowered by Aeva

I didn't really want to puch the front set of baffles too so I opted to remove the rear baffles completely and leave the front baffles intact.  Doing that is called the Ragnar Cut.  If you wanna know more about the ragnar cut, I can post links to it later.  This is what that sounds like.....

Honda Valkyrie - after Ragnar Cutpowered by Aeva

The sound, noise, loudness....whatever you want to call it, is great.  I like the tone.....but depending on which helmet I'm wearing at the time, the drone drives me nuts.  Doesn't bother me at all with a half helmet, but when I wear my full face, it kills me.  I'm wanting to put the piggies back on to see if it will help with the drone.  I've got a set of I/S piggie plates (the longest ones) from Mark-T that i'm going to tack back on (basically re-installing the piggies) along with a set of straight cut extensions and some Grumpy tips....all sitting on a self in my garage just waiting to be put on.

The piggies were already cut on my I/S when I got it....and I suspect that the baffles were drilled also...I've never taken the tips off of them to check......I like the sound of mine though..plenty loud enough(especially when you get on the throttle) but I can still hear my tunes through the speakers at 70mph without having the volume all the way up!!.....

Thanks Scoobydoo. Been hunting the right drill bit for 3 wks now and d*** if my Brother don't pull it outta his tool box and hand it to me tonight. Ordered the turn outs today, caint wait!
Stanley Steamer, yours sounds JUST like mine now, with 8" of the 12" I/S pigs cut, (no baffle drill). I'd be willing to bet your baffles are intact.
BF, I've listened to your 2 vids at least 50 times and I'm probably headed toward the "Ragnar Cut" but wanna take it one step at a time so's to keep Sugar happy, hahaha! (She really likes to ride.) We NEVER wear full face so I'm not too worried about "drone", but I'm getting the turn outs and leaving enough pig to reinstall if necessary. If it's still not what I'm looking for with this next step I'll probably just Ragnar it.
Thanks again to all who've responded with advise and tech tips, (and especially vids) peace, Whiskey.
