clutch fluid reservoir "protector "

When changing out clutch fluid and vacuuming out "boggers"--- noticed a small metal attachment loose in reservoir.

This piece is not shown in Service manual-- but in parts microfich in BC Chapter webpage --indicates it is called a "protector"

Looking in reservoir ---it probably goes on top of output hole and is attached by a tiny screw or rivet to bottom of reservoir.

this screw is no where to be found

Any feedback on purpose of this metal piece and whether performace of clutch would be affected if unable to re-attach.

I have changed fluid and bleed system--- clutch is working great considering my 97 Touer has 52,000 miles and I am 2nd owner ( bought at 30,000 ) and not sure clutch fluid has been ever changed.

the little metal piece does not have a screw, or rivet holding it. it does have a couple of little tabs (on each side) that kinda snap to the bottom of reservoir to hold it in place.  look at it closely, and you will easily figure how it goes.  if you can't, look at the front brake reservoir, it's got one in there too.  the first time i changed my fluid i had the same problem.  easy fix.  good luck
