A couple years ago I posted about a lady rider who lost her life just down the road from my house at the intersection of HY 59 and the road I live on. A pickup truck pulled out in front of her, she was on the highway, he was on my road crossing the HY. The rider just behind her managed to avoid the truck, she "T" boned it. I ride or drive by her roadside marker nearly everyday. She was young and it always make me think when I pass her cross.

Well, I'd been out in the shop working with my lathe most of the day and finally took a break to ride around 6PM today. When I pulled out of the drive I noticed flashing lights at the VFD down the road so I headed the opposite way towards the HY. Both my road and the HY were closed at the intersection and a motorcycle was laying there. Not sure what make, looked like a twin. There were people taking measurements along the road and several people holding up a sheet to hide a body from the stopped cars. Also there was a cage which appeared to be totaled. It looked like the riders body was laying almost exactly where the Lady rider died and I imagine his body had knocked over her marker. WTH?

A neighbor came over to talk, he said a cage had again pulled right out in front of a rider and the rider was dead. I came home, parked the bike for a few minutes, then got back on it and rode. When I came home the road was open but I avoided that intersection. When the girl was killed there it looked like a semi had hit a deer in the road. I'll wait for a rain or two before I ride that way again.

I said a silent prayer for the rider and the cager who killed him/her assuming it happened the way the neighbor said. I don't know what it is about this stretch of country road but that makes five deaths along here, one less than 100 feet from my house in the past few years. Three cagers and two riders.

I'm hoping the neighbor was wrong and the rider is still on this side on the hereafter but the guys looked like they were shielding a corpse with that sheet and no one was hurrying anywhere. Sad

Prayers from Mass for the rider... Too bad.  I took my second ride of the season today on Two bikes and felt I was using extra caution concerning cagers around me as well as sand and salt.  Didn't want any of them to take me out.

Be careful all... especially at the beginning of the season here.

Even tho here in Az. you can ride much more often than you Northerners, after not having taken a substantial i.e. not just running errands, ride in a few weeks, I could notice rusty skills on my ride to Prescott the other day.(Award winning run-on sentence)!
Now that your season approaches remember to self-check your riding chops. Ride safe!!

I guess we start dying on the day we are born. You just never know at what point the process will end.

I live a little further down the road from there..........use to cross there all the time when taking the back roads home from work. Seeing those markers makes me think of my motorcycle instructor harping at me to cover my brake when an intersection comes up. That is a long straight stretch of 2 lane along there. Easy to over look some of the cross roads that come up. Prayers to all involved.

Ride Safe

Sad to hear stuff like this - every time I see a cross on the side of a highway, a couple things cross my mind.  1- I use it as a reality-check for me to always try to be more pro-active in my driving   and 2- I also think about a person died who didn't expect to die that day and left behind a lot of sad family and friends all trying to figure out why it had to happen.
