Hey, Sugar...that's what it feels like to me every day!  When do the "butterflies" go away? Shocked

been riding a long time. sick last oct w pneumonia, just now getting back to feeling like riding.
should take me a few rides to get back. probably several before i let my wife ride with me again.

just take your time practice in a parking lot(empty) a lot. anybody can ride fast, not everyone can ride slow. you'll be riding great IN YOUR OWN TIME, everyones different. don't hurry it

was out your way in 08. rode to glacier nat park, down to salt lake city, and back through colorado
on highway 40. two valk I/S w/trailers and wives on back.   cooldude

I try to practice every day (slow, faster, stops, turns, figure 8's, shifting) After two weeks I was improving a lot!  Have been getting into traffic more and more as well.  Thought I was ready to ride across town (well....it's PHOENIX) but had a set-back yesterday.  Got on the bike, took off (slowly) and could only make it around my general neighborhood before coming home.  Felt like I had forgotten everything I learned!  It was eerie. Figured I'd better not push it.  Was I just being a big woos?! Undecided

listen to that voice inside. if it says no, then no it is.

(sounds like star wars "use the force luke" coolsmiley) but it's true, ask the others.

just remember, it's YOUR ride,  if your uncomfortable don't do it.

we may be coming to your area one of these years, been there in a cage, next time on a bike

being cautious is not "being a wus"  just being smart. cooldude

Queenbee, don't worry about it.  There were several times in my first year to two of riding that I felt awkward on my bike.  I'd just take it back home and take my truck.  Even now I get that feeling on the odd occasion but now it's usually gone within 5-10 miles.

For some there will come a day.  On that day you will lean the bike into a turn and realize that something has change.  You are aware that you trust the machine and the machine trusts you; that somewhere before that turn you and the bike have ceased to be separate but have become one unit.  It's then that you'll cease driving the bike and will have truly become a rider.

For some there will come a day.  You'll know it when it happens to you.

filled my tank for the first time this year, $25!!  to think that when this bike was new, it cost $7 to fill the tank!!

rode to the DMV to pay for our van registration, picked my number, 854, and they were on 790!!  i called the wife and told her that i would be waiting a while, had to do that 'cause the last time i went on a simple trip to the store, i came home 4 hours later!!  the cycle will do that to you!!

feels good to be on the cycle again doesn't it!!  cooldude

Very wise listening to that inner voice.  If it doesn't feel right, don't ride.

Yes, it will come together for you as Willow said.  That will be a deep sigh kind of thing and you will relax.  It will then feel like the Valk is almost reading your mind.

I've been riding awhile but I'm going to be going through much of what you have when I take my first ride of this season..  In my case, the bike is willing but the body is grumbling a bit.  Smiley

Ditto! First ride yesterday after a long winter (that doesn't seem to want to leave). Except I was taking her in for service and that was a 30 mile ride on highways and in the city. Makes for a good ice-breaker ride.
Yep - for those of us in cold climates every spring ride feels like the first one. Excitement overcomes trepidation quickly! Make that ride longer and see.

Thanks for your wise advice, guys.   Today was much, MUCH better!  I feel like I had a breakthrough.  Rode her farther and longer than ever before, and once I was out of the neighborhood and on the highways, I felt very cabable.  Dealt with traffic without the panic that usually insues and was comfortable letting her do the work, but knowing she would only do what I told her to.  It was great.

Suger, I hope your health issues are behind you.  Would love to see you when you come to town.  I wouldn't suggest summer months, though! Wink
