While on leave, my Marine buddy and I met two nursing students from Southern California.   After chatting them up awhile, the conversation turned to what we did in the service.   When we told them we were in the infantry, the girls seemed very impressed, giving us big smiles as they told us how sweet that was.  Since infantry and sweet are seldom used in the same sentence, I was a little confused.   Until, that is, one of the girls said, “We admire any man who works with infants.”

Those two gals sound like some of the officer material I had the "privilege?" of working with back when.  The best ones were the Warrant Officers or those that had started as enlisted men and later either won a field promo or went through officer training after a number of years. The academy boys were pretty bright, but often were quite impressed with themselves. The difference was fairly easy to spot after a short time on the job. But, making jokes about them was what kept us going sometimes...if only they knew.  Wink
