Another thing of beauty (now its valk related)

Particulars,

44in swamped bbl, 54 cal, curly maple stock, 14in LOP, Siler lock, french amber flint.

It is a pretty fair representation of what would have been in this neck of the woods here 230 years ago.

It is a Getz bbl, and the rifle is etched Getz * Camp. The father (Don) did most of it but he had the son (John) and another gunsmith work the finish.

Never shot a Flint Lock... but that sure looks pretty.

Now that's a downright beautiful rifle.  A really nice replica.

Flintlocks bring a whole new meaning to the phrase "follow through".   The ones that I fired, always had a very slight delay before the main charge went off, even if they were clean.   The'flash in the pan' gives a nice orange flame in front of your nose to help you hold the sight picture too

Now, that in a word, is a "LONG" gun. Very nice.

Production ones like the original one I had are slower. The lock is the key  The faster the lock, the better the touch hole is lined up, the faster the ignition.

I worked with my production gun (Lyman Great Plains rifle) for a while but it is reliable as heck and as fast as it can be.

I always wanted a real long rifle. It has been on the bucket list for a long long time and this has been a year in the making. It dipped pretty hard into the black ops funds to the tune of a Mustang 3 piece, and a ultimate KBB, and some.

But a man cannot have to many loves.

WooHoo...it is a pretty gun...that stock and finish are beautiful.  Never fired a flint but hunted percussion (TC Hawken) for years.  that's a loooong way down the barrel to site her.  Tough finding a rifle scabbard to tie onto your Valk to carry that baby!!! Good luck...keep your powder dry
