Wife broke her ankle in two places last Thu. and I`ve been "nurse" ever since. Best weather of the year and I can not mount the Valk. Ice on , Ice off, pain pill on , pain pill off. Bless her heart , she is in a lot of pain. She is a very active person and does not know how to cope with this. Going to Dr. Monday for cast or what ever, I hope no pin`s. There will be more temps that will entice one to "ride" so I will take care of my "Bride" as best as I can. We will be married 38 Years in June so I guess I`ll keep her.

I won't say how long I've been married as it will give my age away. But Red is a keeper also. She has waited on me now for 18 months. October, will be 24 months and another anniversary. The past year she has cost me a bundle, but what the hey, if we spend it then the kids don't get to blow it on their piddly a$$ed sheet. You know, like on murder cycles, and dem tree wheelers with big engines in them. Example: The $46,600 Yeller One. http://renegadetrikes.com/inventory.php

Do not be afraid of the pins. I got pins and a metal piece put in my ankle and a friend of mine that broke her ankle did not. Mine healed strong and fine, her ankle still opens up from the weak spread bones and gives her problems. I have a screw that hurts once in a while when I sit and work on the bike, it pinches my skin, they said they would remove it and give me several weeks back in a boot, I told them I would live with it. Get the swelling down with ice, if swelled they will not do anything with it.

Don, Sorry about the wife's bad luck. Stuff like that happens from time to time to all of us. That's why we've got friends and relatives to help us out. Since I'm not a relative, I doubt I can do much to take care of her but, I'd be happy to come by and exercise yer Valkyrie for ya. You know, since you're all busy play'n nurse.

You know the old joke....."broke her ankle in two places, tell her to stay out of those places from now on."
Enough of the jokes, I know it's not fun to be in that situation, and the pain doesn't seem go away. Forty years ago I had a cast on the left lower leg & foot for the entire summer. Not fun, so here's hoping the breaks aren't too major so the healing will take less time.

Well it`s going to be a LONG 30 days. Wife had surgery on her ankle Wed. A plate and screws will keep her from putting any weight on it for at least a month or more. She is in a lot of pain and the only thing I can do is supply the pain pills for her. She is using a walker and wheelchair around the house. I guess my Spring riding will be " O ". I will not leave her alone. I really feel for her because of the pain and the fact that she can not take care of her self. I know she would do the same for me. Maybe the healing and time will past fast.

Taking care of a loved one in need can be one of the more draining experiences in life. You are going to need to do something just for yourself to recharge your own batteries every now-and-then.
It sounds like a family member or friend could come and stay with her (and give her pills) while you got in a few miles. Weekend road trips are probably out. But, a hundred mile (or so) loop should be enough to do the trick.
I'm just sayin'...if you go "a month or more" without taking care of yourself, this process will feel like it is taking a lot longer than it really is. Doing something for yourself every so often is not irresponsible or selfish - it's healthy and will make this period in your lives so much more tolerable for the both of you.
Just my .02.

I'm in practically the same situation with Lois. I can't be gone too long because she can't get around very good and if she falls she can't get back up. We have 42 years together and, hopefully, many more. I just hope they can find what is causing her problems and help her get her quality of life back. Prayers for you and yours. Dubs

I agree, spending all your time hanging close will tell on ya...take a couple of hours every now and then to hit the road, or just take a nap out in the back yard on the hammock..it'll do wonders for you..

You could always give her an extra pain pill and go for a short ride while she is resting peacefully. Just kidding there is plenty of time to ride later. Hope she has a quick and full recovery.

Guys, thank you for all your thoughts and suggestions. I know that time will heal all but it is the present that makes it "TUFF" We will be fine and do good things together in the days to come. I hope she will still enjoy riding with me on our Valkyrie and not think of "broken bones "
