GOT CURVES??

VRCCDS0184

« on: April 13, 2009, 08:17:46 PM »

I installed a Vista cruise on my bike with the Kury Grips. I followed the instructions on Big BF's page sanding down the cruise so it would fit over the grips. Where I differed was i put the rubber insert in instead of the silicon like he used. The cruise piece with the rubber installed seems to be slightly out of round, to the point of causing some drag. I backed off the allen set screws and it seemed to help.
I am just concerned the thing might hang up sometime and take me for a ride. I think I will lube and adjust the throttle cables and see if it helps.
Any suggestions??

Did you trim the rubber down any?  I seem to remember cutting the rubber down a bit...sorry don't remember how much...but so it would fit under the vistacruise.  It was more than Vistacruise wants you to.  Past that, I just tightened it down enough to not distort the collar.  I believe my set screws are flush with the top of the collar.  It holds very well.

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

I went from oem grips to the Kurys with my VC. I don't recall doing anything different but I might have. I had the same problem. If it was just right on the cruise, it would be to tight for throttle return. I made it just so it returns but yet barly hold the throttle. I can't go to far before I loose speed. Maybe long enough to open my pop. 1/2 mile maybe? I loose about 5mph. What I did, and I'm not sure I did it cause of the VC, but tightened the throttle cables. I have little to no slack. I also greased up the throttle sleeve on the handle bar. Don't use moly paste!  uglystupid2 Just drop the bars and the grip will slid off. Pad the tank yadda yadda yadda. Works well.

I think I got it figured out.

I did trim the rubber, but sanded it down some too,Thanks Joe.

I had some residue of some old grip adhesive, along with the arm being slightly too short. I cleaned up the old residue, and added a few small washers as spacers to move the collar over to the point it would not rub on the housing. It will be nice to shake the numbness out of my hands on those long trips.

You can see the two small washers between the cruise and arm. I used some washers my friend had left over from the Radio Shack bag he used to shim his carb needles.

You got the right solution.  More important than the relative diameters, the alignment of the ring with the collar is most vital to proper function the Vista Cruise.
