I was checking out some ebay stuff. I saw the same interstate gas tank sold to different people. the pics were the exact same, different item numbers.

Be careful on what you bid on. Make sure you dont send money to a scammer.  Here are the two auctions.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150578492466&viewitem=
I have seen them sell a lot of things.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130508185421&viewitem=
This person has 0 feedback. Im sure they are a scammer. They even used the same pics.

I just hope it wasnt any of the VRCC family that won the second auction and paid for it. If so I hope I am wrong and you get your tank.

It does look suspicious.  Buying on eBay I only use Paypal with a credit card.  If I get screwed, Paypal might be able to help, if not, the credit card I used will.  (Been there, done that  Angry )

I reported to Evilbay that it was a direct copy and paste of the old ad when it had 2 days to go and they never got back with me. I sure hope that is wasnt a scam but looks like it was.  tickedoff

I just hope it wasnt any of the VRCC family that won the second auction and paid for it. If so I hope I am wrong and you get your tank.

Uhm....that would be me...and yeah, now that I see the other auction, it does looks like a scam. I got the contact info, from ebay. The auction says "Fl. USA", and the official ebay is in Qatar! Oh well. Looks like my $$'s might be tied up for a bit, as it IS covered under ebay's Buyer Protection. It's just the hassle involved, plus I'll really be p*$$ed if I miss out on another tank, in the meantime, because of being tied up.

What tells me it is a scam is the 0 feedback (I've gotten so used to buying, I was complacent and I didn't check that), as well as the line "We are listing more of the parts from this and several other bikes this week and weekend so please check our auctions and our Ebay Store. Please note that we are NOT doing any BUY IT NOW sales on these items as we want all bidders to have an equal chance of winning our items. Thanks.". After seeing it as a direct copy of the other auction, I'm probably in for a ride...

Oh well, after 13 or 14 years, guess it was bound to happen. But, I DO always use PayPal, and credit card, so I should be pretty well protected.

I reported to Evilbay that it was a direct copy and paste of the old ad when it had 2 days to go and they never got back with me. I sure hope that is wasnt a scam but looks like it was.  tickedoff

Shame they didn't - they might have been able to stop it, if they had been diligent. He has been a member since Jan, 2011. So at least there's SOME history. All I can hope for is that he bought the first auction, it wasn't what he thought it was, so he sold it to me...yeah, RIGHT!! Not holding my breath...

Had I KNOWN that the poster was in Qatar, as his OFFICIAL address, I never would have bid. It would be SO easy for ebay to force the actual address, instead of allowing someone to list whatever they wanted. Plus, you can't get that "official" contact info from ebay, unless you WIN an auction from the person. Sux.

without knowing what we know now i had sent a pm to this guy when the add first came up offering his $700 and never heard back from him. you know gordon from canada has a nice tank for sale why dont you contact him and offer him a realistic price. he is 15-25% over priced right now on a lot of his parts but seems ok. you might be able to work with him.

Gordon's ad is where I saw it. His tank is listed as "pending", or I would have jumped on it. On his page, is a link to the auction I won. Here's what his posting says:

Quote
gas tank, minor dent, I almost can't see it. Sending unit needs to be reinstalled, no cap or petcock. this tank sold recently on ebay

So, when I saw that, I took it to say that he had sold HIS on ebay, and that I had bought it, even though the names didn't jive - a lot of folks have different names out there. Then, of course, I realized he was just pointing out what some IDIOT had paid for one!! (just kidding! If I get a decent tank that I don't have to paint immediately, it would be a suitable price, at least to me, and not out of line with what I have seen some tanks go for).

As of now, I have started an investigation with Ebay. They have assured me I will get my money back, if it's NOT on the up and up, and I don't receive the tank. I am NOT counting on it, in the least. I am surprised that Ebay doesn't make sure, with all the scripting that they do, that they list the accurate location of the seller. Believe me, if the auction had shown Qatar, I wouldn't have bitten. And I'm usually VERY good at sniffing these things out. Again, complacency, as I have had almost 1000 "adventures" with ebay, and this is the very first one, that has smelled at all like fish.

Oh well, pooh happens...

Thanks, all. I wrote Gordon, in case the pending falls through. I really want an Interstate tank...

Well, it's now in ebay's hands. They have assured me, I'm covered under the Ebay Buyer's Protection, and will get my $$$'s back. Don't know how long it will take. I DID get one email from the bostich, saying he would send the tracking number, than nothing, exactly as expected. He has since gotten a feedback - seems he did the same thing, with a $500 coin, that the winner never received. Hopefully, we got him before he burned TOO many people!

In the meantime, I have worked out a deal, on Gordon's I'state tank. Still the correct color, so I don't have to repaint - a little ding, but hey, I RIDE! I don't polish much, just enough to keep the mud off...

thanks all,

I posted this ebay add about 2 days before it was over hinting to the fact it was probably a scam. the last I looked during the bidding, none of the original bidders were bidding on it again !!!

I filed a complaint to ebay and received this in return:

ask ebay why they had complaints that said this was a problem and they ignored them?

We all know the answer, but they would never say something that lame to our face's.

here's my notice while it was selling, it quacked like a duck, walked like a duck, but I was letting you guys call it a duck, I just wasn't buying a duck.

Yeah, I saw your post, after the fact.

I know a lot of people, that never, or very seldom, frequent the general page, for a myriad of reasons. The last time one of my posts was removed, I joined that crowd. It's just too hard to pick the fly $--t out of the pepper. I will always feel that we should have several more forums, one for intelligent conversation, and another for bashing each other. Would make it easier to stay away from the bashing, while still gaining useful information. I am on no less than a dozen forums, and this is the ONLY one like this. So I find myself tending to just occasionally going to the general board, and skipping over all the posts that I know will raise my ire.

Had I seen your post BEFORE the auction ended, I most certainly would not have bid. As it was, if the 2nd highest bidder had bid a few cents more, HE would be playing with ebay, to get his money back! I won it for 679.11, and had bid $680. Had he bid $680.01, he would have had it...

Ebay has another 24 hours to "review" it, and then another 3 days to return my funds. I am sure there's a certain amount of that going around, and I didn't think it was that serious, because if I recall, I had to have a credit card on file, to sell. That, I would think, could eliminate SOME of the scammers. But, not having a criminal mind, I don't think of ways around being honest. I guess ebay makes MORE than enough money, coupled with PayPal, that they can take a hit now and then, without even feeling it. I mean, Meg Whitman spent $160 million on her campaign, like it was nothing! I'm sure ebay can send me $731, without blinking an eye. And yes, it's a shame that they didn't try to stop a very obvious scam or violation, when notified BEFORE the ending. Might have saved me some time and energy.

Oh yeah, when I did call them, they mentioned that they had "several" other complaints on the listing.

I think you missed my point - you say they added a political section. Makes it very simple to avoid political comments. I frequent a LOT of forums. With the exception of this forum, they ALL have a "separate" political "section", whatever you want to call it. Some call it the "sandbox", some call it "free for all", and one even called it "The Nursury". But, it's all the same - you can say whatever you want, about anything you want. And you can also easily avoid it. HERE, we have a free for all in the general section. There have been many times, that I have found ALL posts on the front page, having to do with everything, EXCEPT motorcycles!!! What a waste of time. So, lacking a political section, it's ALL a political section, in the general. So I avoid it, and very rarely go there. Usually it's when I have a response to one of my subscribed posts, I just go ahead and do a quick run-through of the posts.

As I said, I probably would have seen your post, saving me a lot of heartache, if the general section didn't have all the crap. It's my opinion, and I am entitled to it. And no amount of arguing how GOOD it is, the WAY it is, will convince me otherwise.

Yes it would be nice to keep motorcycle and political stuff separate.  But the bigger problem (for me) is jumping into a political thread knowing full well it will be a mess.  uglystupid2
