Author Topic: Valve Cover Heat Guard?  (Read 917 times)

I installed dually offset highway pegs on my 2000 Interstate.  I’m 30-31” inseam so the most comfortable position for me was to mount them on the lower engine guards bar.  They feel great and I can stretch my legs now on long trips.  Unfortunately, the lower part of my legs touch the valve covers and the heat makes it impossible for me to use the pegs.  Does anyone know of any heat shields that were made to be installed in our valve covers?  Any ideas?

I've got mine in the middle of the curve, just enough to keep the legs off the valve covers.  You can swivel them some to get more length. Don't know of any heat covers.

I wear a tall leather boot, it is the only way I can rest my leg on the valve cover.  I don't know of any add on heat shields.

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

Have mine in the same spot but wear 8" boots. Sometimes it gets warm but move them out a little. Havent really noticed it to much any more.

No heat shields (unless you make them).  I have had the same issue with my calf.  You have to adjust the pegs higher/wider or closer, and/or use the outer part of the pegs.  On one set (on my outer engine guards), with my feet on the pegs I'm good, but if I stretch my heels over the pegs, I can burn if I don't slide my feet out to the peg ends.

I never have a problem with my 4050s mounted on the guard supports, but I have the interstate air scoops cut off the guards, and the mounts moved up to where they're cut off. (29.5" inseam)

I had that problem on my GL1100 unless I was wearing chaps. These engines are very wide, and you'll have to find a position where you're pretty spread to use them there. You may have to build some kind of shield, or have them in a less comfortable spot. Nothing is perfect.

I got some extensions from Kuryakyn.  I think they are 1 1/2 inch.  Notice how the peg isn't against the clevis?

Holy Cow, Steve K...

Do you go around many curves with that setup?

Anywho, my 4050s have the 6" arm, and splayed out like that, mounted on
the curve, they're real comfortable and non-burning...
