I have a 2003 standard that drones me to death, the prior owner said he did the piggy mod on the exhaust and now I want to restore it to peaceful silence (or as close as it gets). After taking off the tips I see that Damage is severe but anything is better than buying new pipes I think I will make a plate that covers the two gaps that used to have piggy’s sticking out, Drill two piggy sized holes that I will then weld on two new piggy pipes into The piggy that I will make will extend into the muffler body as close as I can to the holes I see inside and extend out to where the original piggy’s were in the chrome cover tip I will un fold the folded over parts of a pipe on each side. (see pics) I have never seen the inner working of this muffler before and have no idea what was there before Did the pipes just extend all the way through or were there more baffles Do inside piggy parts have a curve / holes / baffles or some other feature that I cant see

It looks like your exhaust is missing more than just the "piggies".... more like a semi-ragnar cut. On the other side of the plate where you now have the two big holes used to have baffles .... see link below for more info. http://www.valkyrieriders.com/shoptalk/Pipes101.htmEven if you just weld "piggies" back on, it will still be loud unless you can make some baffles to replace the ones that were removed. You could prolly fabricate something out of copper tubing and cap the one end and drill holes in it ?? The other option (and easier) is to just buy some good used replacements.

If you found a set where the "piggies" were cut but not drilled that would be an easy fix as long as there is at least some kind of stub left ....

the muffler is made of stainless steel. if you could get a hold of some stainless steel pipe, bring it to a machine shop, (or bring it to me and i'd do it) then have the new ones welded back on. from what i can see, who ever chopped them off did a hell of a job!!

Inside of each pipe, there are six baffles. 12 in total both sides. 3 rear and 3 front.
On yours, it appears that someone performed what is called the Ragnar cut on just two of the rear baffles. Your other rear baffle is intact. Usually, all three rear baffles get gutted. Can't tell the condition of your front baffles, but it's possible that he drilled the front set of baffles also, but you'll have to stick a rod all the way in there to see if they've been punched. Scratch that......I looked at your first pic again blown up and I'd bet that your front baffles are intact.
I don't know of anyway to replace a baffle once it's been totally removed as in your case, however, if you want, you can still replace your piggies. It won't make it any less loud, but it should (note the word "should") reduce, if not elliminate your drone.
MarkT sells what he calls piggie plates. He cuts off and saves the entire piggie plate from modded stock pipes that he'll sell. You then weld those back on the end of your pipes. He offers intact piggies from Standard/Tourer pipes and Interstates as well. The Interstates have the longest piggies......you might consider buying the Interstates as they'll help the most at getting rid of that drone.
PM or email MarkT. He should be able to help you....and probably offer some very good advice.
Good luck.

If you don't like noise, you will not like anything drilled, cut, or any other so call modified exhaust pipes. The originals have a bad enough drone. Get yourself a stock set with no modifications, if anything at all has been modified, let them be. That is as bad a butcher job as I have seen, nothing you can do to quite then now except to throw them into the trash.

One thing to note is if you weld on "piggie plates" from an Interstate you'll also have to find some Interstate exhaust tips as they won't work with the standard tips.

too cheep to buy a new set I can weld something up. Hacked is what will be the final product. need to substitute something for missing baffles and plates I like the ideas in this post http://dmr-architect.com/~locouki/baffle-muffler.htmlhe built a screen and packed in some SS pads I may add some reversal or 180 pipe at the inside end so the sound has to travel backwards then exit the outside piggy I like this insert also http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=11248.0seems and easy idea anything you just see wrong with ether one of these ideas PS I will custom bend the outside piggy's to fit the finish cover

if you look at your pictures closely it kinda looks like pinochio's face....2-big eyes....and a big nose. you really would be cheaper/better off buying a used set.

Actually, they're not in better shape.....they've just been cut cleaner and nicer. They've had the entire back plate cut with all the baffles removed. Although, whoever did it, did it alot cleaner looking and with a nice clean/straight cut, but still, they've been gutted. There's nothing there to weld to. At least, OldOneEye still has some material to weld onto.

you could try turn downs, this deflects the noise down and may not be as bad as what you have. drilled mine and cut pigs, sounds throaty unless you crack the throttle. can still hear the radio over them on the highway too.

untill next Sunday when i look at the "new" pipes I will try packing some SS pads in there and "baffling" the end (no piggy's) to see how it works
The SNOW melted yesterday and the ICE on the car windshield has got me worked up to go on a ride. got to be careful lots of sand on the dry roads around here, saw a rice burner flip over his bike last weekend from hitting sand. I stopped and he was ok but his bike was leaking oil. but I digress.
I will post somehow vids of the sound before and after.

dirt bike shops usually sell muffler packing that MIGHT work better than ss pads. haven't tried it though. good luck

I believe this is the best idea, as you have ruled out spending bigger bucks to get a OEM set. MP

Packing is used to wrap a perforated baffle. If you stuff anything in those rear baffles your likely to create too much back pressure and blow the wadding right out.
My least expensive idea and will restore stock sound is to buy some 18" + extensions from AirFlow and a set of intact rear baffles from MarkT.
Should be only a couple hundred $'s or so for everything.
Then finish mutilating the other 30% of your existing baffles to open them up. Then shove the baffles from Mark into the extensions. The extension should hold snug enough at the existing rear baffles, if not, carefully measure and drill 2 holes in the AirFlows to secure the extensions to the existing rear baffles.
Just an idea.
If you want greater detail give a shout!

I have been busy doing other junk. but here is the start of my mod. Step 1 I am lucky to have a plasma-cutter, So i found some pipes and have cut slits in them I will insert them (2 to 3 pipes) in the 2 chambers that are open and I have some exhaust wrap that I will use to space and prevent them from rattling. I hope to get 3 pipes in each triangular hole so that the back pressure will be minimal. I hope that it will match stock as close as possible. Step 2 will be to cut them to length. then test fit maybe weld some spacers try the wrap stuff for fit, maybe add a baffle? we will see when time allows your comments are welcome

they may be good candidates for the glaspak mod if your repair doesn't hold up for you or the sound still doesn't meet your needs....all you need for that is a decent set of head pipes and front covers....the rest can be replaced with paks and stacks.
good luck.
