Hi All after spending hours reading on this topic last night i'm not clear what size and make to use. I have a 205/60/16 Car tire on the rear, so if some one can clarify the size and the brand it would sure help. I think its a bias ply that everyone is using, please advise.   cooldude

I picked up a 130/90-17 (68V) Avon Roadrider AM26 Rear Motorcycle Tire (Part # 1245350007 from Jake Wilson).  It's supposed to be as close as you can get to stock size, from what I've read on here.

Have yet to put it on, though.

Diameter of the tire is the important thing.

Any change in diameter from OEM will affect the speedometer reading.

Front stock:  profile height
150/80HR-17 120mm
Possibilities:
130/90-17    117mm
140/80-17    112mm
140/90-17    126mm
150/90-17    135mm

Height is just the profile difference, I believe you would have to double the difference for tire height or calculations for diameter. Anything below stock will increase the speedo error, taller may mitigate this error. 150/90 may require modification to the front fender bolt holes to raise the fender's nose.

I've seen some of these sizes in Dunlop, Avon and Metz radials, and all of them in Dunlop D404s.

D404 dunlop is a bias tire, it works fine, and wears well, mine is a d404 front 150/70/17, with a dunnie American elite bias 180/65/16 on the back.  I like them.  Fat lady don't care that they are bias.  hoser

My source doesn't show a 140/90-17 either, but I'm sure they had one around Christmas when I was doing the research. Whitewall even. I was thinking it would bring the speedo up closer to actual...

I have a bias ply kendon 150 70 17. The same one I put on it a long time ago. I'm no mileage checker but it has a bunch on it as I ride over 110 miles to work and back plus ride all over the country on the weekends. According to my gps 85 mph is 79 mph. I think it was off around that much with the stock tire. Had no problems yet. I do have some small cupping signs on the corners but I don't think its the tires fault. I abused this tire some and didn't keep the pressure up to specs as this was a test tire. $50, I'm not out much. I may try the Avon bias 90 next. Wouldn't hesitate to put the $50 Kendon on again though. I think I had have around 17k on this one if I remember correctly

Out of curiosity, what are the benefits of running a rear tire on the front?
