Hi folks does anyone know where i can buy a new fuel tank for my 2002 GL1500C . I have seen a couple of prices on Bikebandit.com that scare the crap out of me. Have cleaned it out with rustco to no avail. i think it is to far gone to fix. shook half a cup full today that is after cleaning it out once allready. I'm in the process of filling it with white vinegar to see if it makes any differance. Has a pin hole on the inside saddle. It has cost me 500 smakers to get the crap out of carbs so far not game to put it back on. Cry Any help would be good. Also i live in Australia.
Cheers

Ebay and Pinwall.  Although listed as parts, I am not sure if you can actually order a tank.

If for a std or tourer, should be able to get a tank for a couple hundred bucks.  You will probably have to get it painted to match.

Gordonv is parting out a wrecked interstate. You can upgrade your tank to a larger IS tank. Gordon is out of Vancouver Canada. Here's a link to his add in the new classifieds.

I wonder how bad you would be raped by shipping charges if you bought a used one from someone in the U.S. or Canada.

Direct Line has them for about $1250. If you can order a new one in the proper color it might be worth the cost, and at least the new ones are packaged well. If you are going used I also would suggest going for an Interstate tank-I got one about a year ago and love the extra capacity.

+1
It depends on the cost of repair and paint in his area. I recently priced getting a used Interstate tank painted including fix one small dent. The price of the used tank plus paint was nearly the cost of a new tank. Add to that the possible rust issue with a used tank and for me it was a no brainer. If I install an Interstate tank on my Standard, it will be new.

I can't speak for Australia but here in the states you can take it to a radiator shop and get it cleaned out professionally and they can generally repair them.

Just a idea.

204, if the I/S tank doesn't have the fuel gauge sender in it, you'll either have to put one in it or make a block off plate for it.  Otherwise it won't hold gas. Also, the I/S tank is a wee bit longer and the Standard/Tourer seat won't fit.  You can have the nose trimmed to fit.

Good time to install a fuel gauge, you know you want one anyway!  LOL

I did that on my 97.  Put on an IS tank, and added a Motosen fuel gauge.  LOVE IT!

You may, or may not, need to modify the seat.  The tank is NOT longer, it just has a higher rise straight up in the back.  So, if your seat kind of goes over the top of the rear of the tank, that may need to be trimmed a bit.  If your seat just goes up to the tank, you are good to go.

If buying new, I would go for the IS tank, and put a Motosen gauge in it.  The extra 1.9 gallons is great, and it is nice having a gauge.  Mine is very accurate.

204, looks like you may have a black bike. You might want to look at this.
