While my house is only 8 years old, I had started to notice last year that the bottom of my front door frame was rotting. Of course that was not covered by the door "lifetime" warranty.

So after ordering a new door from my local home improvement store, it was time to get to work. First order of business was to remove the old door. (How hard could that be?

Well, maybe a bit more than I bargained for. Then I found the builder had not used treated wood where the old door rested and it was looking a little rotten. Trip one of four trips to the local home improvement store for more materials, wood, caulk, expanding foam, etc.

Roughly 10 hours later here is the completed result. Still have to trim out the inside but I am happy with the way it turned out. Thankfully for me my wifes brother and nephew are both in the building trades or I still might have had that giant hole in the side of my house LOL

My Valkyrie is still covered up in the garage since last October. Now my post is Valkyrie related.  Cheesy

VERY nice Dave !   AND, I know FULL well your experience with "trip one of four" to the local hardware/building supply store.  Actually, if you wre able to accomplish all of this in only four trips I'm even MORE impressed !  A very Happy Easter to you and your bride.   cooldude

Looks good Dave...Good Job!!!  When we did that a few years back  we had one of my sons friends install it.  He has experience in that line of work.  I does make a big difference in the curb appeal of the home though, don't it.  When we have to do it again, I'll have more people to call now...HA HA!!!  Happy Easter to you and Andrea!!

Really nice man.   cooldude cooldude

I like the wood grain over red.

That's a double deadbolt next to the side light, right?

My carpentry sucks.... my exterior door hole once had a rug over it overnight while I tried to figure out what I was doing wrong (fail).   My neighbor (the wise ass) said it was a big improvement.     2funny

nice front door  cooldude  good job.

our front door is a POS.  every single year, sometimes in the dead of winter, i have to replace the weather stripping under the door.  my wife naturally places the carpet up against the door at night.  one night i noticed that it was flipped back, at 2am.  then i saw that there were fresh footprints in the newly fallen snow, then i found out that my daughter snuck out in the middle of the night,  my wife told me that putting the rug up against the door isn't only to keep out the draft, it's also there to see if anyone snuck out!!  i'll have to remember that the next time i'm coming in at 2am...... We use framesaver jambs with pvc exterior trim or harditrim.

Looks great! Nice job!

But you do know...it's all connected, right? Once you start a project, you are locked in. The kitchen will need a remodel. The garage door will go "sproing", soon you'll be re-sodding the northeast corner of the lawn!

Heck, I just started with a simple dishwasher problem...and now I'm knee-deep in a 140 year old commercial building and a 11o year old Victorian...

All started with a dishwasher....read and despair!

LOL! Yeah well, don't worry about the braces. I'm sure I've got it covered! I think my employer has just set up a direct transfusion from my paycheck to the homeowner hell...it goes so much smoother if I don't even see the money first.

Dave I now can look with great interest at any home 'project' including numerous trips to the hardware store.   I have bequeathed all those "interesting and pleasant' chores to my son Mark.

After 56 years of home ownership,  I  can most certainly appreciate the work and eventual satisfaction that it took to do the job right,  good job.

i can now spend  more time polishing the chrome on the Vstrom 1000..................WAIT!, it doesn't have any chrome,  cooldude cooldude cooldude

Oh well, it'll give me more time to ride.
