I imagine a lot of illegal immigrants are quite happy living here.

It's easy we just pay £6.55/gal for gas. Central government then can give £250/week to all imigrants.Might as well send all your Mexicans over now as they are definately preferable to the idle Eastern Europeans that we are getting by the million.

I am an American working in the Czech Republic. These guys don't like to think of themselves as Eastern Europe. More Central. At any rate, I work at an IBM facility. We cannot find enough people to work here. We used to say you needed a little UNIX admin experience. Now, we just want you to be able to speak English. I work with some Brits who are here because they can't find anything in the UK. Strange thing is that we pay about what the UK pays for doing nothing. If any of you have any doubts about what IBM and other large companies are doing to our industry, just spend some time here. I can do it because I am at the age of full retirement and get Soc Sec from the US. So, I live on about triple what the guys I work with have to live onj. I left a job in the US that has since been outsourced to IBM. That work will now be done in India. What I can't figure out is why the executives that are making these decisions don't think their jobs will be over here next.
BTW, there is a black Valk over here that is always parked outside the same bar. I need to drop in and see who owns it one of these days. Hope he speaks english, because I don't speak Czech.
Don't mean to sound negative, but I am glad my career is not just starting. I have a son in the business. I really hope he likes China or Eastern Europe. Czech beer, on the other hand is really good. 1.25 will get you about 16oz.

I don't think its the same place. We don't make computers here. We monitor computer performance on machines all over Europe. When one goes down, we call somebody who will boot it up again. Kind of a crazy job. But, the customers pay IBM and IBM pays us to sit around and wait for something to happen. I tell all my friends its like being a Walmart greeter in our industry. I am 68, so I guess I shouldn't care. I am a good 35 years older than anyone else here. I feel sorry for the rest of them. We actually used to have fun in this industry. The Phillipines sounds nice. I spent a year in China. I might go back there. The weather is nicer. But, I have a son who needs to finish high school. SO, I need to do a couple of years in Chicago. The Czechs have a national health plan. Really makes us look stupid in the US. They give their Doctors their education and then expect them to work for what they could get flipping burgers in the US. But, it works good. I have had both feet operated on here. Cost $9 US. Now I can walk again. The other thing I like is that when you make an appointment with a Dr. for 4:00, you are seen at 4:00. I could go on, but I am heading back to the US July 22.

I was fixed many years ago myself. The reasons I have a kid in High School are way to involved to go into here. I suppose we all do things out of love or compassion that may seem odd to those who are not fully informed. Anyway, the thread was more about the economic climate here in Europe.

Those stories, esp the first, are literally beyond belief...... Alice in Wonderland-Through the Looking Glass, or Franz Kafka-The Trial.
I've seen much of Europe, and sat in Heathrow several times awaiting connections, but I will never visit that County under any circumstances. I met several expats in the Caribbean who had long since moved to Portugal or Spain. The man told me it was an offense to declare in public 'I am English, NOT British." And many want to bring that type of society to the US (may they rot in hades).

Record number of laws made in 2010
And I'm sure one of them (or all of them) is the Lifetime Lawyers (barristers and solicitors) Full-Employment Act
