It derby time and I'm running low. Got the 1st bottle at the whiskey run. I was hoping to ride to S Ind and get another bottle or 2 since I cant get it up here. Stopped last night and the store owner is trying to get some to sell since a few have asked for it. He will even get it to me at cost.  cooldude His supplier said its out of stock. Great. So if anybody in So Ind knows if their store has any let me know. If not in 2 weeks I will ride 9 hours and do some searching.

Fudgie...I am only an hour and a half away from the distillery.  Let me know if you can't get any. I could make a booze run to Kentucky for ya and then meet ya halfway to deliver the product.

I'm not sure right now, Robin.  I work for a company that supplies Toyota auto manufacturing plants and since the earthquake/tsunami in Japan destroyed so many parts plants there, we are down to a 3 day work week.  For the 2 non-working days we enjoy each week, we can either use vacation or take it unpaid.  They are forecasting this condition for 6 weeks, maybe longer.  I will either be broke or out of vacation days by the first of June, maybe both.  If in any way, shape, or form I can be there, I will deliver you 2 bottles. I will let you know as the date approaches.

Well it looks like it has not been released to Ind, per the Jeffersonville Ind lady. Called Greenwood, Seymore, Columbus, and even Dayton Ohio. Found some at the Liqour Barn near the airport of L-ville. She will even hold me a bottle till I get there. Guess a 11 hr ride is in order next weekend.  Evil

Hey fudgie... I remember you liked that stuff... I thought it was foul...  Wink I posted this
after the Whiskey Run:

William Percy described how to make a real Southern Mint Julep in "Lanterns on the Levee"...

Father and General Catchins and Captain McNeilly and Captain Wat Stone and Mr. Everman would
forgather  every so often on our front gallery. These meeting must habitually have taken place in
summer, because I remember Mother would be in white, looking very pretty, and would immediately
set about making a mint julep for the gentlemen - no hors d'oeuvres, no sandwiches, no cocktails,
just a mint julep. After the first long swallow - really a slow and noiseless suck, because the thick
crushed ice comes against your teeth and the ice must be kept out and the liquor let in - Cap Mac
would say: "Very fine, Camille, you make the best julep in the world." She probably did. Certainly
her juleps had nothing in common with those hybrid concoctions one buys in bars the world over
under that name. It would have been sacrilege to add lemon, or a slice of orange or of pineapple,
or one of these wretched maraschino cherries.

First you needed excellent bourbon whisky; rye or Scotch would not do at all. Then you put half an
inch of sugar in the bottom of the glass and merely dampened it with water. Next, very quickly - and
here is the trick in the procedure - you crushed your ice, actually powdered it, preferably in a towel
with a wooden mallet, so quickly that it remained dry, and slipping two sprigs of fresh mint against
the inside of the glass, you crammed the ice in right to the brim, packing it with your hand. Last you
filled the glass, which apparently had no room left for anything else, with bourbon, the older the
better, and grated a bit of nutmeg on the top.

The glass immediately frosted and you settled back in your chair for a half an hour of sedate
cumulative bliss. Although you stirred the sugar at the bottom, it never all melted, therefore at
the end of the half hour there was left a delicious mess of ice and mint and whisky which a small
boy was allowed to consume with calm rapture. Probably the anticipation of this phase of a julep
was what held me on the outskirts of these meetings rather than the excitement of the discussion,
which often I did not understand.

Fudgie...let me know if you want me to pick it up.  I am only an hour from the airport.  I can then meet you halfway with it and save you some miles and expense.  If you are really looking for a road trip and won't let me help you out, then can I go along?

Can do Dave. Just not sure yet which you can do. I may buy a case of it. Well I wont but a local 'store' might want some so he can sell it up here. I'll let ya know what happens. I was planning on going down a week from Sat.  It would save me a few hours of ride $$ time. I'll let you know in a day or 2. Either way a hook up is in order.  cooldude

Yeah, I looked everyplace around here, too - we have two serious liquor stores, and they seem to compete pretty hard, over having a better stocked store, and they all looked at me like I was crazy!

However you get it, have a safe trip...
