I made a plate that attaches under the tag, but is bent forward so it shows only to the right side, and not to the rear.

I believe the actual requirement is that the sticker be near the license plate and visible from the rear.  That said, mine is on an aluminum plate bolted on the RH side of the engine between the rear master cylinder and dipstick.

The rule is that it must be visible from the rear (doesn't actually have to be near the plate).

I just use a standard mounting plate that you use to mount the license plate and the inspection sticker goes on the smaller surface that sticks out at the bottom. Doesn't look sleek by any means, but there is nothing sleek looking about my bike, so it doesn't matter.  Any Texas motorcycle shop should have these plates in aluminium and plastic.

Anyone here old enough to remember when you had to laminate it and keep it in your wallet?

We used to keep them in a tube or in a carrier under the seat. Had to be on the bike. Mine was in a plastic tube bolted to the plate.  If you laminated it, it was voided.  They did the sticker on the front fork tube for a while. Even tried on the windshield of the bigger bikes, but that only lasted a year.  Been under or near the tag for years.  Mine is not visable from the rear, but an officer can pass me on the left and he can see it.  Inspection station has not said anything about the placement in the 3 years I have had the bike.

Used to love the ones in the tube because the cops never wanted to wait while you unscrewed the thing to show them, so I only got my bikes inspected 'occasionally'. Same Amarillo cops who I convinced the "450" on the side of my Honda when I was 15 (1968 CB450) meant four and a half horsepower since the license was restricted to "under 5 BHP". 2funny

Had one think that my CL90 was 90 cubic inches!  His partner gave me the look that said, "I can't believe he just said that!"   I had to point out the 87cc mark on the block!

I'm told that now, in Texas, when they run your license plate number, they also get information about insurance and inspections.  So our inspections may not be good for five years any more.  Darn!

I surely hope that whoever told me that was wrong.

No, but that would've come in very handy when I was about 15 or so.

"What's that in your wallet?"

"Oh this?" (tries to rustle little plastic square thingy deeper into wallet), "Just my...uh...inspection sticker!"
