A friend just swapped a vtwin Yamaha for this '96 year GW......looking at the specs maybe this could offer the Valks something.  Same HP, 10 more foot pounds, 4 valves per cylinder......maybe our 6 carb setup would fit and get a few more ponies.....oh yeah, 6 speed transmission!!!!!!!

1996 GW SE

Engine Type: 1520 cc, 4 Stroke - Liquid Cooled - Boxer Six
Engine Bore and Stroke: 71 mm x 64 mm
Valves 4 valves/cylinder
Claimed Horsepower: 100 hp (74.6 kW) @ 5200 rpm
Maximum Torque: 150 Nm (110.6 ft. lbs) @ 4000 rpm

Transmission type: 6 speed
Final Drive: Shaft

Where did you get that info, from the seller?
This is from the spec sheet on a 1988 GoldWing:
Type 1520 cc, liquid cooled, 6 - cylinders boxer, 4-stroke
Bore x stroke (mm) 71 mm x 64 mm
Valves 2 valves/cylinder
Power 100 hp (74.6 kW) @ 5200 rpm
Torque 150 Nm (110.6 ft. lbs) @ 4000 rpm
TRANSMISSION
Gearbox 5 speed
Final drive Drive shaft

http://www.goldwingworld.com/pages/specgl1500.htm

2 valves, 5 speed; same for the GL1800. Honda has never made a 6 speed gearbox, unless you mean 5 speed + reverse.

And the 1500 Wing does have reverse!
So does any I/S shipped to Japan.

This link gives specs for many m/c......maybe they included the reverse as the 6th gear.....what about the 4 valves per cylinder, did they screw that up?

I've been kicking around a crazy idea for awhile. A subaru 2.0 turbo motor easily makes 200-250 h.p. It's similar in size to the valk motor. Hard part would be mating the tranny/clutch and getting the rear splines to live. It would be reliable (motor) and stupid fast. Maybe I'll try it some day if I get a second valk to rip apart  Evil

Erm....

You might want to have another look into the EJ205 Subaru engine. I have both WRX and Valkyrie in my garage and I really do not think that engine would fit in the frame, especially with all the kit like radiators and intercooler and such. Sorry to rain on your parade....  Roll Eyes

So now I know why my GW 1500 friends are not impressed with my hot rod Valk....they have had the same hp and even more torque than  my 6 carb hot rod for several years and have not had to put up with the noisy gear train whine.  Man am I disillusioned, I am ready to sell this thing, for today only I will part with this dog for $16,000.00 US dollars.....email me at "riowil@iamadisillusioned.com.rade" with your offers...........

How much different is the 1800cc engine in the wing? Any interchangability?

I read some stuff in the archives that said the 1800 doesn't fit at all and wasn't worth it for 10 more h.p.
About the subie thing, Like I said crazy idea. I took some measurments off my friends buggy it's only about an inch wider and a bit taller. Without all the smog crap it's pretty compact.......proly just a dream....... Smiley

I'm planing on keeping the frame from my IS, and after I tear apart the motor I'll have the block. Don't know how the tranny will end up, it's siezed, I might have enough stuff sitting around to give some measurements if you need them.

The Subaru sounds interesting.....I got to sit on a Boss Hoss (350 Chevy 402 hp) and rev'ed the engine.....better have the feet firmly planted cause the torque roll is pretty significant!!

I've ridden the 350 Boss Hoss a couple times.  They handle surprisingly well for their size and weight.  The acceleration was incredible.  Though I understand it's not more than a Hyabusa or ZX-14.  But I haven't ridden them.  You sure feel omnipotent on a BH.  And man do they garner stares.  Took me a couple tries to hook up from a standing start without smoking the tire.  Once I got that down - I counted off 3 seconds and checked the speedo - I was at about 100.  I really wanted one - but it was too much money for such a specialized bike.  The Gold Wing made more sense for my second bike.

The owner of the BH I sat on did offer to let me ride it, but I was in White Horse and 4000 miles from home......got to thinking if I did something stupid....it would be a looooong way home to ride banged up.
Sorry I missed the thrill tho...

Not all of them run with car tires.

Any idea what tire that is? Looks like a car/MC hybrid.
