Amazing!  Very sorry to hear such a high death toll.   Cry  We had an F4 touch down within a few miles of my house last week, and had similar destruction to hundreds of homes and Lambert Airport.  Thankfully, no one was killed, and only a few minor injuries.

i saw that...that was terrible. i don't think this one near our house was anywhere near that powerful...haven't heard yet...but i'm thinking only F2 or at most F3. the one in Tuscaloosa of course, much worse than this local one ....they're thinking it was F5. i can only imagine what THAT damage would look like up close.

Reminds me of the damage on the Mississippi Gulf Coast after Katrina.   Sad

And, some say global warming, and the attendant storms, are just a figment of our imaginations.  Godspeed to those harmed by this disaster.

In 2007, NASA created a computer model to simulate updraft strength (beginnings of a tornado).  They found that the updraft strength made a noticeable increase when carbon dioxide levels were double present day levels, and the average global temperature was 5 F higher than present day.  Considering the average global temperature trend has remained fairly constant, and has risen an average of 1.33 F over the last 100+ years, I doubt global warming is behind these storms.

According to the director of FEMA, these storms were probably caused by... wait for it...

Back when i was still driving i got thru big and little towns within hours of the storm. You got some good photos. But when you experience it first hand-photos only begin to tell the story. Prayers to all the people that have suffered a loss due to the storm system. God bless. RIDE SAFE.

And when the foundations are scrubbed off...how the hell do you hide from that?

Our sympathies to those hurt in this outbreak...

We saw damage like that in Jasper a few years back (late 90's). I lost a friend in that storm. That tornado actually blew the surface off the roads (seriously).

Sometimes there's just no place to run.

Glad you and your's are safe RedValk.

My apologies, in the heat of anger from my posting, I got RedValk crossed with Sherrill from this post:

http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,27478.msg250207.html#msg250207

The same storm hit us hard Wednesday morning, then as we were trying to salvage what was left, we got hit again around 10:30 p.m. Our shop roof and contents are gone, It turned 2 Valkyries upside down and to the far side of the bldg, Pick up the 09 VMax and dropped it on the hood of my daughter's Mustang, and lifted the roof off the back of our house. Lots of Wind and water damage, Power lines and trees are down for miles and no sign of restoral anytime soon. But, Our family is safe and that's all that matters! I needed more projects and a good excuse to "soup up" the VMax...lol

No worries Serk.  cooldude

I got halfway through a response to that comment myself before I figured I'd just be giving the guy the attention he's obviously looking for.

Tornados are no joke, we had an EF4 on the local Army base on New Years and it was pretty scary. I'm really glad to hear ya'll are ok. Stuff can be replaced.

Don't start that horse crap. I lived in north Alabama in 1974 and experienced a very similar event in early April of that year when tornados ripped through Mississippi, Alabama, Tenn, and up through Ohio. More than 300 people killed that night. Global warming? Oh yeah, back then the environmental whack-jobs called it "Global cooling"....... Bullshit  tickedoff

NO....my home was NOT damaged. I count our lucky blessings. I do own 35 acres....and we found out the day after that on the far side of the property, we indeed had a large tree down and MANY tops of trees snapped off....which MIGHT have been a funnel cloud dropping down....but NOT touching the ground? but since it was just by a pond on the far pasture....i just cleaned up the tops (pushed them into the woods)....and it was all cleaned up ....well....good enough for a pond/pasture/woods....in a mere hour or so.

No, we were much more fortunte than other folks right down the road! we are so thankful for that.

Like Daniel Meyer said, where DO YOU GO....when it scrubs a foundation from the ground? No where i guess. Our water table is so high that we don't have basements in this part of the country (they would fill with water). We go to the middle hall bathroom...take our motorcycle helmets...and old bed mattress....and get in the tub and take cover.

i saw on the news last night two amazing photos/stories. one, was a couple took cover in their bathroom...and despite the roof being gone...they survived. BUT JUST TWO HOUSES DOWN, their neighbor's house was removed to the foundation....and they perished. The other amazing story, was a picture of a bathroom...the three walls around the toilet and the toilet STILL there...the toilet paper STILL ON THE ROLL AND PERFECTLY SPOOLED...but THE ENTIRE REST OF the house....GONE!

Amazing.......

What a crock!  all kinds of climatologists say that is not true.

If it hot, it is global warming.  If it is cold, it is global warming.  If it is dry, it is global warming.  If it rains, it is global warming.

There must not have been any weather extremes before 1990!  LOL

Here in ND, it is snowing today.  My grandparents told me 50 years ago, that they had experienced snow in all 12 months.  I have not seen snow in July.
This last winter, the local paper published a photo of the 1912 July 4th celebration.  The caption stated " had snow in the afternoon!".

So, I guess global warming was in effect by 1912!  LOL
