Hi, all...I was having trouble finding American Red (R191 code) paint for my bags, as the PPG was $208 a quart, JUST for the paint, and that was the only maker that I could find a formula listed for, other than the ColorRite website.

I finally had the local shop use their computer gun, to try and find a match. Anything around a "1" confidence is pretty good - most fall around 1.2, .9, etc. We took three readings each, in 4 different places on the red. We got a confidence of .3!!! My gal there said that is about as good as it gets, unless it's factory paint on a factory color.

The color is standard on Volkswagen's, and called G2 Tornado Red. I put a bit in an inconspicuous spot, and once dried, is PERFECT!! I went single-stage paint, and it cost me $56 a quart - I walked out with a quart of 2K primer, a quart of the red, a quart of black, and all the activators and reducers, for $180. Maybe this will help someone else, with the same problem. Or, if you have small scratches, you might be able to find one of those touch-up paint sticks, in Tornado Red.

This is the color on a VW (look familiar??):

Did you notice if you can get spray bombs of it?  Am thinking about painting the swingarm Red/Cream instead of the typical chrome cover.  The original butt ugly black looks real bad..........

Thanks for the tip.

Thanks Roger!  I've got a couple of places that need touchup or repainting and that will help a lot!

Chiefy - wrong color, for your '98. It's not the same red. According to color rite, your's is: R223    Pearl Sedona Red on the red/cream two-tone. Here's the link: '98 color codes

I didn't ask about spray bombs, but I'm sure you could, if your supplier can make an aerosol of their paint.

Marty - glad it can help someone! I looked quite a while, before resorting to the computer method, but the .3 did it for me. That's REALLY close!

Here's what mine are going to look like (IhopeIhopeIhope!!)

I found the that Dupli-color's Paint Shop red is a bloody good match as well. I used it to paint my trailer to match, and I use it for stone chips and the like touch ups.

I have a can of their red, it's lacquer and requires a clear coat, which I prefer not to use, due to durability on the motorcycle. Just personal preference.

I also found the red was a little too red, when right side by side, which my bags will be. I thought about getting some black, and mixing just a tad, to tone the red down a little, but with it being lacquer, decided not to.
