I just purchased a 1999 Interstate, the only problem I can complane about is the wind coming over the windshield ,at speeds above 40 mph the turblance is so bad it makes this wonderful motorcycle a horror to ride. Although this is the first bike I have owned with a windscreen (my other bikes are older BSAs, Triumphs, and a Honda CB900) I can't except that this is best that can be expected from this motorcycle. I'm 6'4" my line of sight is just above the top of the windscreen, I don't want to go to a taller windshield (if I have to look through it I might as well take a convertable car) I'm taking a 4wk trip through Colorado, Utah and Wyoming this August and would like to have this resolved. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 2000 I/S I bought new in 2000.  Never had any turbulance.  Is the scoop in front of the windshield and on top of the fairing got something in there plugging that hole up?  Maybe someone else has a better idea.

NEHI,  I'm 6'3" and run a showchrome w/s that is two in taller than stock and 4in wider on each side. I can still see over it if I have to by setting up sraight. I also have the baker air wings and lower deflectors on the fork tubes . I only get as much wind as I want. In the winter I do plug the fairing vent with some foam rubber to stop wind from it. Hope this helps.

OK, i am 5-10 sit on a corbin seat.  my line of vision seems to be right about at the top of the windsheild.  if i relax into cruiser position, it is thru.  sit straight, just above the top.  don't get any turbulence.  just wondering, based on this, should i stay with the oem size, go higher, go lower.  advantages/disadvantages.  everyone has an opinion, id like to hear

I like to look over the shield.   Then if I run onto rain, I can always duck back in behind it.

It is like you say, riders opinion and where they feel the best..

I have a 99 I/S.I'm 6'1" and found that the stock w/s would give me such terrible helmet buffeting above 70 mph that my vision would blurr and I generally got beat to s.....I bought an aftermarket that was 4" higher and 2" wider and the relief was immediate but I was behind the windshield and unable to see above (not fun in the fog) and pretty warm in the summer consequently--but,no more buffeting.
This winter I put on self-chopped w/s (formerly the stock w/s),quick removal bags w/ fender brake light, and went to darkside (205/55).I have found so far that although I get the wind and some buffeting above 80 mph, the wind doesn't affect me as bad as the original. In fact, with the trunk removed, chopped w/s, darkside, it's like having new bike. The ride seems to match what I see as the Valkyrie's intent-Goldwing with an attitude.Oh, and one more thing, I went Gerbing.

I also bought a Show Chrome windshield, but did not particularly like the shape of it even though it did its job perfectly, so I modified it.  I didn't take any off the height or the width.  I only rounded the little darling so it would look more to my liking.  I am 6'1" and look over the windshield 95% of the time.  I could tell no difference in its performance after the modification one way or the other.  It just looks better to me!  I have bought windshields from Clear View Shields in Colorado and they make a fine product in any height, width, or configuration that you want.  Their only problem is that they are so good that they are busy all the time and it usually takes a while to get a windshield from them.  The only reason for buying a Show Chrome is that the OEM windshield that came on my bike was in terrible shape from all those years of cleaning with Windex and I wanted a new windshield without having to loose any riding time.  I have been happy with the Show Chrome since I rounded it up a bit....JTL
