OK, I'm fairly new at wrenching on the Valk.

I've pulled the rear wheel to get the tire changed, and (whew!) the splines look like new, the paste is still well distributed and sticky, so it was done right by the PO or his dealer. I'll be doing the fork seals as well, looks like (sigh) and will be doing brake and clutch fluids now that I have the Mitey Vac. Pumkin gear oil will be changed, along with headlight and signal fluid (still searching on Google for that, but I'll find it, I'm sure).

With only 26,000 miles on her, would it be worth it to pull the drive shaft and check things like the U-joint and pinion cup? Looks like a lot of work, but with most of the rear end removed it might be a good time.

I pushed her back and forth in 4th gear and it don't look to be hydrolocked!
I just want to get on it and ride...
Fred.

fred.... with all the stuff you have removed so far, and with so little to remove to do it all, i would definatly remove the final drive, and the drive shaft. pull the drive shaft out of the final drive...clean and lube the pinion cup/both ends of the drive shaft, and put it all back together.  you will feel alot better knowing it's done right by you.

+1

There's always been lots of empahsis on the drive splines in the pumpkin, but it is equally imprortant to check and clean and lube the pinion cup and driveshaft splines at the same time.  This part is often neglected by dealers and DIYers alike.

I kinda figured that would be the advice I'd get.
Thanks, I'll do it.
