Yes, as long as the fuse is good!  Can't depend on just looking at it either.

I'm talking about the wire that feeds the alt. all fuses are good the 55amp link to. traced wire it goes to a orange connecter with all the wires on one side I think it goes to the instrument cluster in the  fairing I beleive. talked to ken gennings from mars he said this wire must have batt. voltage for the alt. to charge the batt. when the key is on. also I would like to add that the charging wire that goes to the 55amp link has batt. voltage with the key on or off  the manual says it's to have voltage with the key off but dont say there should be voltage with the key on. is this normal. need help!!! kingfish

RP Brown did these a number of  years ago.  Great work and lots plainer than the manual.  Battery feeds through the 55A fuse to the alternator directly.

that feed wire goes to a plug under the bike make sure that plug did'nt get unplugged when you installed the altenator..from there it goes to a 10 amp ignition fuze. if you have power threw that ignition fuse then it has to be from there to the altenator there is also a black box on the rear of the altenator that goes to the black plastic surrounded terminal...if you look under the bike above the swing arm you'll see a bundle of wires surrounded by a plastic sheath..thats the bundle that plug it's in.

thanks for all the tips the manual says to take this wire of at the conector,  harness side terminal turn on ing. and this wire should show batt. voltage mine does not. there is power to the ing. fuse 10amp in the fuse box. I tore open the wire harness this wire goes to a orange conector that was taped to the wire harness by the batt. box there are many wires conected to this orange box all wires are on one side of the box. anybody know what this conector is for. also would it be safe to use a jumper wire from the ing. fuse to the altinator . kingfish

So, the 55A fusable link was good?  I really thought you were going to come back and say that metal fusable link thing was melted

shouldn't be too hard to trace from point A to B.  Let us know what you find.

Is this the orange box you refer to?

If so, buy this from HDL, it is for an old Gold Wing, not exactly alike, but it will work.     You have to move the red power wire to the empty slot.

It also had a larger rubber boot for all of that stuff to fit in.

and I have not actually looked for it so don't know exactly where it lives.  But sounds like he found the trouble.  Maybe it could just be bypassed.  Clean up the ends and add a little wire same gauge and solder and heat shrink all the connections.

There have been a few threads regarding that particular connector. They refer to your connector as the one wrapped inside the harness wrapping that is located in front of the rear wheel.

It seems to me it was related to problems with the lights on the Interstate model although I can't be sure.

I don't think that is the connector that is pictured a few posts back.

Maybe someone can help you with the search and find those threads.
