I searched the archives looking for a good place to mount
my Stebel. At least a couple of pics showed one mounted
under the gas tank on the left side. Any of you that did that
still around? Care to give a few more details other than " I
made a bracket"? Looks like that's where I'm going to put mine
unless I go back to my original plan of putting it in place of
the OEM horn.

Have a look at Fordmano's 'Multipoint upgrade' thread. There's lots there, including his Stebel instalation, with tons of photos.

Remember, you MUST have the opening point down (or downward) to allow water to drain out.

I see you don't have one, but some IS owners have mounted them in the rad pods. Some have also mounted under the swing arm, again, beware of water ingrease.

If I did NOT have factory foglights in my radiator pods I would surely mount a Stebel in each of them. Due to the Factory foglights there is NOT enough room inside the pods, without Major modifications and I have yet to have anyone show a picture of it being done.

Don't forget to make sure the air supply tube is also pointed in a direction that will allow for drainage or minimize direct contact with likely water/dirt/mud. I ran my air inlet/supply tube torward the middle of the engine block were my lines that fed to the charcoal canister laid near the clutch line bleeder on top of the tranny.

I mounted mine under the swingarm. Pop riveted an "L" bracket to the plate in front of the tire and bolted the horn there. Been on for a few years now. Horn openings down.

I mounted mine on the right side near the ignition. "I made a bracket..." well, just a piece of flat bar with two holes drilled in it, I forget the length. One bolt through the open holes by the ignition, the other for the horn. You can see some of it between the ignition and the horn.

Dodis,,, you got me thinking maybe I need a second one on that side also. cooldude looks pretty good there also.

Gotta see what the wife says about my chrome and bike upgrades budget this weekend.

Yep I can see the forward portion of your bracket, did you roll the flat bar to mount to the stebel on the top of the mount hole that is drilled through the top of the outer edge of the stebel horn.

Yeah, I would actually rather have mine on the right side, but that's where
I put the switch to my aux. lights. Besides, the top of my engine looks
pretty sad from neglect by the previous owner(s) and the Stebel will work
great as a cover up!

I made a simple L bracket to mount the Stebel on the left side in front of the fuel shutoff.  There is a bolt there you can use to mount the bracket.  My horn is mounted perpendicular to the line of the bike and it fits right in the area in front of the fuel shutoff.  It sticks out no further than the carbs and does not interfere with the fuel shutoff.  IMHO it looks a tad better mounted that way than parallel with the line of the bike but mostly it doesn't interfere with anything when mounted in that position.

I had to make 3 or 4 brackets by trial and error to get the relationship between the right angle bend and bolt holes just right, but just used a piece of flat aluminum bar stock from Home Depot.  I don't have time to take a picture and disassemble it to get you the measurements as I'm trying to get ready to go hunting, but if your really interested PM me and I'll do it when I get back.  If you take your Stebel and stick it sideways in the hole in front of the fuel shutoff you should see the approximate configuration of the bracket.  It took me only about 15 or 20 minutes to fabricate a bracket I was happy with.

NO..NO!! Don't go to all that trouble. Thanks for the offer but it
shouldn't be TOO hard to get just right.

I took this image for and entirely different  reason... but if you look closely it does show you my solution... I hacked this out of 1/8" aluminum plate.  Buffed up nice... but I did have to buy longer bolts.

This is relayed to the main accessory power fusebox I had installed previously:

Finally got back to the forum...

No, didn't roll anything, just a short piece of flat bar aluminum, drilled two holes... I had to mount the horn at a little angle to keep from hitting things, but with so much chrome there, you don't notice at a glance.

Just installed a Stebel I picked up at Aerostitch. Installed under the tank on the left side. I've looked at the pics listed on this forum and can't tell if anyone that has done the same has attached the intake hose for the compressor or just left it off. If any of you are using it, where are you routing it to? For those of you who aren't using it, have you ever had a problem with moisture in the intake?

I don't have a hose on mine and it works every time.

Thanks Marty. Wasn't really wanting to have a hose hanging off the bottom of the horn.

I actually used a little longer length of clear fuel line and it runs toward the center of the engine/trans under the gas tank and then down the rear of the tranny case where all the vent hoses and the hoses to the charcoal canister did until I did the DeSmog and pulled all stock hoses, now that air tube for the Stebel is almost all by itself there.

Located where you have it it is unlikely it will have moisture issues but better safe than sorry is the way for me.... Cheesy

Finally got mine installed and that's where I routed my hose.
