April 5th we had an election here in Wisconsin for the state supreme court. At first the person that won, won by a narrow margin of less then 200 votes. The loser was willing to accept that loss. Then some 7000 votes turned up for the “loser”. Apparently they were not reported the day of the count, and were later included changing the outcome. So the New Loser, demanded a recount!! Since she originally was declared the winner by 200 votes, and then lost by roughly 7000, she felt that some how there might be some additional votes that would make up the difference. As of Monday night, the one time “winner” was behind by 37,000 votes!!!
This all makes one think and question, how accurate are our votes anyway?? If one person is declared the winner, then later ends up losing, it makes you question EVERY close election!!
Case in point, look at Minnesota, if memory serves me correctly, didn’t Al Franken originally lose, then later, by a recount win by only 90 or so votes??

Where did those numbers come from? It was announced by the AP that Kloppenburg had won by 204 votes. That was before official canvassing results were turned in. During canvassing they found a clerical error that flipped the final official results to Prosser by 7,316 votes. Kloppenburg called for a recount, and has currently lost net 111 votes in the recount so far. That is the newest figures I have. Where did 37,000 come from?

I often wonder this myself, and with your explanation of this election it seems it doesn't have to be "close" either!! 7000 votes!!! I know nothing of the vote counting procedure (electronic, mail-in, early, etc...). Here you go into a booth with a big "pen" looking thing and on a screen in front of you you touch the box next to your choice of candidate which puts a X by his/her name. Once done you have many chances to review your choices before you hit "submit". This seems pretty cut and dry but with the fiasco that happened in Minnisota and a few years earlier in Florida it does get one to wondering how this works. But in this day and age with the electronics...

"Those who cast the votes decide nothing. Those who count the votes decide everything."
—Communist Tyrant and mass murderer Josef Stalin
(And yeah, there's quite some controversy as to if he really ever said this or not, but still a good quote, and sadly quite true...)
And on the same tack:
"I don't care who does the electing, so long as I get to do the nominating." "As long as I count the votes, what are you going to do about it?"
--Boss Tweed

7,000 sounds like a lot, but it put Prosser ahead by .41%, obviously very close. And after the ridiculous actions that led the election to flop, I think a recount is needed to verify who really won. Nothing like scandal to cast doubt on the validity of an election!

Yea that was a mess, I was here and voted for George but when I looked at the outcome I was sort of embarrassed. All the votes that were thrown out came from Democratic strong hold counties makes you wonder if we are really electing these people. I don't trust the gov. even if they are the people I vote for.

if we really want to knock off the election shenningans we need to limit voting to ONE DAY! none of this 2 week crap, none of this same day registration nonsense. and yes we need more oversight from both party officials, too many 'surprise' votes showing up. there is much more documented abuses from the left then the right. that sounds like a broad baseless statement but its true. here's a former acorn insiders blog, take it or leave it. http://www.anitamoncrief.blogspot.com/
