I was excited by a brisk ride this morning. I didn't look at the temperature because I just didn't care. My heat ran on and off during the night so I knew it was chillier.
I bundled up and left for work, taking care to watch for frost on the bridges just in case.
I stopped at a local gas station to fill up the tank. When I went in a buddy of mine was standing there drinking coffee. He asked if I rode the bike. I looked behind me and we could both see my bike sitting by the pump so I admitted it. Why not. He said, "It's 20 degrees." Okay. I honestly didn't know. The air was dry. I just smiled and told him I hadn't checked. He then started picking on me--in a good nature way--about my refusing to drive anything else.
Of course, he walked a mile down the road in 20 degrees to sip a cup of coffee. So why was he picking on me?
So I've heard it was 20 degrees and I rode to work. Who knew.

Balmy low 30's this morning on the way in, brisk high 30's on the way home. Weather looks clear here for the next 10 days, but they lie a lot about that. Grateful I hooked up the vest & gloves to the electrical system on the scooter, the battery strapped to my midsection just wasn't cutting it. My Valk should be coming home any day now...

I've ridden to work all but one day this year. My wife joined me to find a quiet place to study one day and mandated the car. Oh well. One of the jobs has already run its course. The other two will end in the next two weeks. I'll keep riding as long as I can keep working.
Today (Saturday) I'm heading out to find breakfast and then a junk yard to search out lower shock mounts for my '60 F100 project. The truck is coming along fairly well. I will get time to really work on it in a few weeks.

It was 28 when I left this morning, and 35 when I came home. The gloves worked on the way in, but not on the way home. Windy.

I rode today in part just because I could and in part because my chances to ride are running out. It was 15 degrees. One of my gloves worked fine. The other could have been thicker. I'm typing now to ensure that my fingers are warm enough. I'm here and feeling good. I'd be better if this building didn't have the heat cranked like an oven. Oh well.

I'm a part time employee of several places at the moment. I've been trying for full time employment in my field for a while. At the moment I feel seasonal. I am a top candidate for several full time slots, but I've been there before. I am beginning to hate the application process. One of my employers has convinced me to apply for a full-time-temporary opening. It seems as if the full time and temporary negate each other. We'll have to see. They see it as a way to make sure the demand warrants the position to exist long term and are using it as a back door to create a full time position. We'll see. Feels like pipe dreams at the moment. Since I feel seasonal, I have no idea how much longer I have at this job until it runs out. Only about three more days here and one more day at the other employer before I'm finished for the fall. We'll see.

but ultimately she did leave the choice up to me. That was kind of her. It was 14 degrees (F) this morning which is approaching my threshold but not quite there. It was 15 before the sun came up. I was waiting for sunlight so I could see the bridges better, but sunlight somehow brought a colder temperature. I never have figured that out. I found out last evening that I was passed over for a job again. Been there before. I'll move on--on the motorcycle. Although employment for the future is tomorrow's probloem. Today I rode. It is supposed to warm up a little bit before I ride home. That'll be nice. I came in early, in traffic, behind buses, to give an exam. When I was pulling my glove off it had snot-cicles frozen across the back. I hope that doesn't thaw out in my saddle bag. I'm here. I'm sitting quietly and warmly wishing I was outside enjoying the nice cool day. Ride safely.

Well heck, it was probably 28 when I rode in this morning, and 24 when I came home tonight. Thanks, Oss, but they wouldn't fit the scooter. The good news is that I fixed the glove problem. I found that if I held the connection between the controller & the curly extension to the gloves, it worked fine, but that's kinda squirrely in traffic. So I cleaned up all the connectors, then spread open the center pin just a little on all the connectors, and I was toasty on the way home. Colder tomorrow. Can't wait! I love work!

The 18 degree day felt colder for some reason. It was a struggle to keep my fingers wiggled enough to fight the numbness. On the ride in I thought to myself, "why are you going to work today?" Luckily when I arrived at work and thawed out, I was able to find out why I came today. My boss called me out of a meeting and formally offered me a full time temporary position, which is a step up for me. Hopefully it is a step in the right direction. I'm still working out a few logistics and details, but it looks like I'll be at one school full time in the Spring. They're working to make it a permanent position, so I'm still waiting to see. At the moment, I'm warm, excited, and ready to bundle up and ride to lunch.

I rode yesterday, in the 20's both ways, but coming home with the Christmas music playing as I passed the decorated houses put a smile on my face that didn't get wiped out until I was standing beside the scooter while backing it down the driveway & lost balance & it ended up falling towards me & having the left mirror & 2BeSeen light stop the fall on the stone wall. Broke the whole assembly off at the mirror mount, and broke all the windshield mounting screws. It's light enough so I can pick it up, so I got it in the garage, and will start ordering parts today. Could be worse, at least I have a project for the Holidays, and it's supposed to snow early next week anyway...

Thanks, Raymond, it's just an $8 bracket for the mirror & light, and $24 for the windshield hardware. Last time I forgot to put on the emergency brake, the scooter took me down with it, and I had a bruised rib for a while, so this one's easy. Hope we get to ride again soon!

I cant wait till April when I can really add to this post instead of hijacking it. To much road salt and snow to ride. 'Suppose' to be in the mid 40's this weekend with rain the day before. So I hope to be able to ride on sat since we have a PGR mission pending.

I usually ride at least once or twice every month but, as you know, the Hoosier state hasn't been kind to motorcyclists lately. It's been weeks since I could even get the scooter out of the garage without riding 35' of rutted ice and snow just to get to more of the same in the road. Makes me wish I still had a dirt bike.

I spent most of the last few weeks on vacation or snowed in. I'm happy to finally be back at work (since last Thursday, but I've been busy). I'm heading to work on a bike every day. I have a full time job again for the first time in three years and I'm excited. Still trying to figure out where to park the bike because my office is not near the motorcycle parking. It is nice to have an office. So far I have sat there trying to remember what to do in an office, but I'll figure it out sooner or later.
Back to work, back to the road.

Still commuting on 2. Sunday, at lunch, my Dad told me that he'd had his gas tank filled in the shop on Friday. The truck driver had to drag the hose past the shed where I park my tourer. The driver smirked and asked Dad when the last time my bike was on the road. He expected to hear November or some such far away past date. Dad told him I'd been home about 30 minutes. Apparently the driver thought it was too cold to ride. It was chilly but dry so I went to work on the bike. Still commuting.
