Heavy rains today washed the salt away that was put down last week. So I'm good to ride for at least 3 days. Temps will be in the 30s for the rides to work...good enough. I've got to burn off a tank of gas anyway before changing out the petcock and doing the desmog. In northern Illinois, we know any week could be our last for the season this time of year.

Ride safe!

I rode the Interstate this morning.  Honestly, it's not as often as it once was.  Once it was automatic so long as a small or no chance of precipitation was expected.  Now there is a conscious decision involved.  This morning was a no brainer with no moisture expected with morning temps in the thirties rising to expected sixties in the afternoon.

I still haven't taken the time and effort to trim that windscreen.  I need to do that.  Its presence causes me to sit unnaturally high to see over the screen.  Willow is, after all, by many people's standards a dwarf.

We were in fog for the first dozen miles and then in and out until about twenty.

It was an easy ride.  I am fortunate enough to work for a team that is not overly concerned about my arrival time so long as the hours are done.  I took my time planning to cruise at a leisurely pace. The Interstate surprises me with its shift pattern.  When I look down at the speedometer I regularly discover that I'm already above the PRV going into fourth gear.

This morning a doe with a fawn strolled across the road just ahead of me.  I saw the doe soon enough to trim my velocity and then applied a very small amount of brake to allow the fawn a very relaxed crossing.  Neither displayed a white tail.

I didn't have to compete for the available motorcycle parking spaces upon my arrival at the work site.

It was a good morning to ride.

I rode to work today. Temps were above freezing (34*F) and the roads had mostly dried. In honor of Christmas Eve, work was only open 1/2 day today so it was daylight when I left for home and by then the temp had risen to 36*F. The sun was out and the last minute Christmas shopping crazies left me alone.

I rode to work today.  Honestly I think it's the first time since before Christmas.  Of course, I had the entire Christmas week off from work.

Was in the thirties and forties all day.  Beautiful day.  Nice day for a ride.  I live sixty miles from the office.

Good day.

29 degrees when I arrived at work this morning.
No telling what is was when I left at 530 (65 miles).
Beat the heck out of the fog we had on Wed, but boy I was glad I wore long johns today.

Started this commute 1 August and have ridden every blessed day except two.
Those two days were the "arctic vortex" last week when it was in the low 20s.
Wife "forbid" me to ride.  I complied.

I figure if she gets up and has her hands on her hips, I better listen.  tickedoff

Rode to Tomball last night to eat with GearJammer, RocketMan, and Lyn-Del.  It was about 60 miles.  Nice ride.  The ride home at 10 p.m. was pretty chilly, about 48 with no long johns...

Rode in today and it was a great ride in also...

Hope the weather is good up North, Willow.

I rode to work this morning.  Actually I've ridden a few times lately.

It was thirty-nine degrees on departure.  Seemed a little colder than thirty-nine should be.  Must've been a high moisture content in the air.

I'm not the same as I once was.  There was a time not so long ago when it was automatic except for the presence of ice or snow.  These days I ride in when it's preferable for me due to temperature, expected conditions, and the current mood.

I don't cruise as rapidly either as I once did.  Quite often I'll look down and find myself at or below the PRV.  I do still often have an issue with acceleration off a stop or turn.  I'm thinking an indicated eighty-five may be a bit much for a posted fifty-five mile per hour two lane.  I still get a little uneasy around freighters on the flyway.

It was a good ride.

Sue and I rode to work today, it was pretty uneventful. By uneventful I mean the temperature was great, skies were clear, not much wind, and traffic wasn't horribly stupid. It was really hard to turn into the driveway at work with the sun starting to come up over the horizon.

When I stopped at the gas station this morning to fill up I had 106 miles on the odometer and the bike only took a little over 2.5 gallons. That came out to a little over 39 mpg. I guess the tweaking I've been doing to the bike is paying off.

Rode in to work yesterday. Yep, I had to work Memorial Day. All was good. Nice ride in, low 90's, traffic wasn't bad. The ride home was great. Love riding home in the early AM. Okay, the middle of the night. Nice and cool, high 60's. It felt wonderful after the heat of the day.

Worked sucked today as usual. The only redeeming factor (besides earning money) was my scooter sitting in front of the breakroom window waiting on me like she is most days.

It was 49 degrees and 4:30 AM when I left for work this morning, The air was sharp, made me wish I was wearing my full face helmet. It is nice that it's cool enough to wear the leather jacket on the way in now. I was riding through a sea of corn in the dark for a while. I love being a PoDunk living in the country. Although I work in a neighboring town, my route to work keeps me in the country 7/8ths of the way there. Believe me, that's no accident. It's one of the reasons I picked this employer. Had to wonder if I'd get a face full of deer, they like to move before dawn when the air is crisp but they gave me a break thankfully.

It was 59 degrees, thundering and raining on my way home. The zipper broke on my rainsuit jacket before it even started to zip. Since I only carry junk rainsuits to work the pants leaked like a sieve too. Usually I look at rain on the way home as my pre-shower and skip the rainsuit but it was a little cold for that today.

I have to say, that cold, wet ride home was the highlight of my day. And, although I was glad to get home I was "really glad" I rode today.

Funny thing, as I was leaving, one of the company guys (and a non-rider) suggested I stay at the plant until it stopped raining. I know there are a lot of fair weather riders out there. I take offense at the suggestion that I become one of them. And of course, if I'm hanging around and somebody manages to break some piece of equipment then I'd need to stay and fix it.

When he suggested I hang around I told him "I'd rather die in the rain on my way home than hang around an extra 30 seconds without being paid for it". Sometimes I'm a little more candid than I should be I guess but the road was calling.  Grin

44.5 degrees this morning when I left for the hour and fifteen minute ride in.  I always love the first two thirds of my ride in to work, as I live out in the quasi-country.  The last part is always in traffic, on crappy roads.  However, I can honestly say that it is always better on my bike than in my car.  The crappy roads stay the same, but the smile on my face is never there when in the cage.

Forty-eight degrees (F) on the way in this morning.  At the halfway point, about thirty miles out, one of the time and temperature displays was showing fifty-one.  It felt absolutely balmy.

Another good day for a ride.

Was another great day to ride today. I can always feel the grin start as I get close to the scooter when I'm about to head home. When I hit the starter button it turns into a FULL ON GOOBER GRIN.

Today as I pulled off the lot I was reminded of a term Allen Greenspan  used, "Irrational Exuberance". I wonder if he rode?

It said it was 41 at the middle school next door when I pulled into the parking lot this morning.  A bit nippy, but the sun was shining and the pavement was dry.  It was a beautiful day to ride.  Looking forward to the Eat & Ride with the group this evening.  Should be a good ride to Tarkio and the return will be a bit dark and cool, but still good as long as the forest rats stay in the fields and off the highway.
