If you want to lower the swing arm past the pipes, just remove the 4 bolts at the passenger peg mount and swing the pipes out of the way....no need to mess with the headers.  I used to do it that way, now I remove the shocks and raise the swing arm so I dont even have to mess with the pipes at all

You may have to unbolt the rear hanger bolts and wedge the pipes out by putting something between the hangers and mounting brackets. Then remove the top shock bolts and either raise the bike up so the axle will go below the pipes or lower the bike  down until the axle goes above the pipes . I've done it both ways. I like to raise the bike up so as soon as I have the axle out I can rolls the tire out. Some say it is bad on u-joint but it hasn't caused me any problems.

If you lower the swingarm and let it stop on it's own with the tire still on the axle you may crack the bearing cups in the u-joint since that is the only thing that will hold the swing arm and keep it from falling all the way down.

That is why you should support the swing arm after disconnecting the rear shock absorbers.  There have been many posts regarding this in past threads and they all concur.
