Thursday-yesterday out just ridin and enjoying a day the lord has made. Ran a couple of roads i've never been on before. Good ride next to no traffic-up ahead on a little straight stretch see this young squirrel just goin back and forth like they do. Slowed down light evasive manuvers and missed the little rodent. Not even close-right. Fast forward about 22 or 23 hours-some roads in arkansas that i haven't run before either. Great day-enjoying all the different shades of green this time of year-the valk running perfect-the sun is bright-all is correct in my little slice of heaven. Little straight stretch of road again-the same as before-but different. Saw the little rodent crystal clear-it to was out enjoying a day the lord had made. Again light evasive manuvers(had i still been drivin truck or been in the cage-zero evasive manuvers) Some how or another the front wheel missed the little furry tailed critter. The back tire and wheel on the other hand granted this particular young rodent a wish it probably didn't even know it wished. Yup you got it-one squirrel grave yard dead. Moral-i don't know for sure-but i guess the valk has a new second name. World at large and bikers in particular-i am now the proud owner and rider of Squirrel Killer. RIDE SAFE.

Last week I was riding near my home and a squirrel proved that proper animal hitting techniqes work. Yes I said animal hitting rather than animal avoiding. See if you think the idea is to avoid you may react by swirving, never a good thing. So if a critter big or small (ok dont try this on a moose) up to about a 40 lb dog gets in your path you want to slow down, down shift and be ready to accelerate hard as you run over the poor thing staying perfectly straight, no leaning, no swerving.
Ok so the poor sqirrel runs out right into my path...I slow a little, but hey its not like hitting this thing is going to hurt, and I was only going 35 or so. The squirrel got really "squirrely" I suppose thats how they got their name (or is that where we got the word squirrely?) oh well back to the poor squirrel. Im getting closer and he is sitting up looking at me, then it dawns on him........."I better move" so he darts to the centerline. Ok, thats safe, hes outta my way, then I think he realized he lives on the other side of the road, so he darts back across my path. except hes REALLY close now...so close I thought I was going to make a flat squirrel, so then he changes his mind and wants to go back to the centerline but he must be smelling my front tire by now so he freezes with those deer in the headlight eyes. All im thinking about is cleaning squirrel guts....I HATE THAT! Then some how he makes it across to the near edge and gets to resume his life and I continue straight down the road.
Had I tried to miss him, Im sure it wouldnt have ended well

I came up on a small rabbit sitting on the far side of the ditch on the off side of the road. It was almost at the edge of the tall grass and perfectly safe where it was sitting. I being the nice guy that I am deicided to glently tap my horn so he/she would just jump into the taller grass and hide. O hell no it turned and made a hell bent for leather run to the oppisite side of the road. Well let's just say he didn't make it.

Swerving is not always good, but slowing is a natural... Thus my wife refers to squirrels as "Mother Nature's Speed Bumps"... Hey, you slowed down, didn't you?

A 1-and-a-half minute video from the Talihina Scenic drive. Watch for the squirrel 48 seconds into the video. He survived. Link to the blog

Some insurance company-not sure which one was the guilty party-had the commercial with the squirrel that stopped in the road and tried to look all cute and cuddly(yeah right)and all i could think every darn time i saw that ad was-go ahead-try that in front of me. Nuthin but road kill. Before anyone goes all animal rights activist on me-i'm a country boy. It's a friggin squirrel ya'll. O-k good ridin to ya'll and watch out for the furry creatures that are glad winters over to. Thats why they are born in litters-they expect to lose some. RIDE SAFE.

Wife and myself crusing down the back roads on the trikes. I see in the center of road the critter just standing there looking at her comming straight at him. Just in time he runs to the side of the road then stops watches her go by then runs back to the center ,stands up and watches her pull away with his back to me. SPLAT never saw it comming. At least the last thing he saw was a good woman on a Valk. Lonerbtw
