I am hooking my rear turn signals to operate as running, turn, and stop. I replaced the socket so now I have a dual element bulb. I bought a trailer wiring adapter and hooked it up.  It was a cheap one - I think $10. Everything works except when I put the turn signal on it is real dim. I have heard that there are trailer wiring adapters that run an addition hot wire to the lights. Is this what I need?  Also I have read there are converters that will do what I want and also have a canceler on the turn signals. Anyone recommend these? They were pretty pricey. Thanks for any help.

After just chasing a turn signal gremlin myself, be sure to check all the grounds.  I don't know if that's your problem, but that's where I found mine. 

Re a "kit" approach for run/turn/brake, I have the Priority Plus.  http://www.soundoffrec.com/products/lights.aspx  This system adds 1.5 seconds of flashing to the brake lights but does not add self-canceling.  You might check Kisan.

If the turn signal is dim and the running light is brighter than the other running light, there is a pretty good chance that the wires are switched at the connections where they are attached to the turn signal & running light wires coming from the bike...JTL

Thanks for the answers but the grounds are good and it is hooked up properly. I took off the trailer adapter and the turn signals were nice and bright but don't work as a brake light ( being stock). Then I hooked up the trailer adapter and turn signals barely glow but they do work like brake lights. I wonder if I need a heavier duty blinker for some odd reason. Or a different syle trailer adapter.

Usually the cheap trailer adaptor works fine as long as it is just controlling one set of lights, only thing is when you have the signal on and hit the brake the signal flashes at double the rate.  They sell a powered converter, its a little higher but not too bad, and it provides the power for the lights and is a must if you pull a trailer or have more than one set of lights hooked up.  The Cheapie just passes through the power, and the powered one is triggered by the power coming in and puts seperate power to the lights.
