OK .... I notice when I get off the bike after a ride that there is what smells like hot rubber smell coming from the bike .... more so from the rear.   And, NO, it's not from doing any burnouts.  Anyway, any ideas ??

You running a car tire or an oversized tire.  If the clearance is too small at the swing arm or at the nuts for fender rail bolts.  Changes in the tire while riding can cause it to rub.

Nope, running stock size tire.  I did check for the obvious on the rear tire but could not see any signs of rubbing. No shiny spots on tire or swing arm and no signs of rubber dust.  it's a little baffling.

A tire will smell like that if it's severely under inflated.

It could be the front fender.

Inside the front fender is a rubber mud flap that has been known to do what you describe.

Easy to look and feel for it. It is located towards the rear.

There's four of those rubber strips in a front fender.  What the heck are they for?  Do they do anything?  Can you take them out.....and leave them out?

Now that I have them out I think their purpose is to act as sound dampers .... I've noticed quite a bit of road noise resonating from inside that BIG fender so first chance I get I'm going to glue those suckers back in there.

Those rubber parts are to prevent stones from
 denting the fender from stones.

I find that hard to believe .... if that were true wouldn't they be along the top of the fender ??

Exactly.  Stones are gonna fly up, not out to the sides.
