When I adj'd valves I noticed the rubber valve cover bolt washers getting dry (12 yr old) so I ordered new ones ... They came in Thursday & I thought it would be nice to have them installed for my WkEnd trip since one was OCASSIONALLY misting. SNAP! and no bolts to be found...
So... about 250 miles down the road, my 16mm makeshift bolt is MORE THAN MISTING. I wish I had a picture of me sitting in front of Indianapolis NAPA waiting for the permatex to harden while I clean oil off the bike and chaps.
Why do I do that?

PS. No more leaks, great 1k WkEnd & bolt is due in tomorrow.
IT' s ALL about the journey.  cooldude

as infrequently as one removes these valve covers its easy to forget that these bolts dont get torqued.  they have a hard stop just before  a good rubber gasket hits bottom so the last bit of tightening squeezes the rubber and then it hard stops....just a tiny bimp past that hard stop is all you need

Curious

Was it an upper or lower fastener that was "misting"?

Lower but I replaced all 12; $2.50 each!

Rem ... I adjusted valves; don't know where it was before, but they were all showing their age.
