I was wondering if placing adhesive aluminum foil tape on the inside of the Alternator cover would help prevent the eventual heat blistering that occurs over time?

Anyone tried this or have other preventative measures they've used?  coolsmiley

Maybe, I thought about that too. But thought maybe not. The inside was chromed [reflective like tape] and did nothing to reflect the heat. If the tape were insulated maybe.
I just painted mine and am content with I will never experience blistering again.

I think I'm going to do the same thing.

I have a used cover on the way and my IS gas tank is still in the paint shop. I'll call the shop and have them save a bit of the red & white paint for the cover.  cooldude

My cover blistered some years ago, back when I still had the OEM alternator.  When I installed the Compufire, I was considering making a cover that would fit over it, when I got to thinking - well if it's that hot, wouldn't it be better to just not block the cooling air, and let it run cool?  Certainly would be better for the life of the alternator, if not for it's looks.  I figured at the time, the new alternator doesn't look bad anyway, and maybe if I keep it clean...  I also thought, you know, I can gut the housing, and then work it over with sanding and polishing, until the aluminum is really shiny.  Which is what I've decided to do, if I ever care enough about it to take the effort to put some sparkle right there.

Just some musings...
