Doors. I bought a pre-hung front door to replace our old nasty one. Frame was square, plumb, got the jamb square and plumb, and it's still binding at the bottom on the hinge side. I've shimmed it every which way and it's tolerable, but not perfect. Is there some magic trick to these things I don't know about?

Also, I managed to stick a rusty nail in my hand and now it's hard to bend one of my fingers. Oh, and the TV receiver died. It's nice to have such problems Smiley

Sorry, AV, but I don't know enough about installing the pre-hung doors to help you any. Sure looks easy enough when those guys on the DIY network do it! Grin

But I can tell you that I don't think this is your week to be buying any lottery tickets! Evil 2funny

Does the door have an adjustible threshold? if so adjust down. Sometimes you can take a long screw in the top hinge to pull the top over raising the bottom on the opposite edge. or you can raise the door slightly in the frame by enlarging the mortise if you have clearance between top of door and frame

If its just a little bit, I would say to just hand plane the corner down......... Or use a belt sander if you have one.... If you do.. make sure to slap some paint on the raw edge if its an outside door

I replaced every door in my house, and had the same trouble with most of them.  Carpentry is not my forte... just keep at it.  And spray some expanding foam in the cracks before trimming.

I'm not a carpenter by a long shot, but my stepdad was and he always told me on these prehung doors, to get it in the hole, lightly stabelized and then make 4 measurements.

Measure the opening at the top, measure it at the bottom, make them equal each other,

Then he had me measure from the left top corner to the right bottom corner, then from the right top corner to the lower left corner, make these equal and it should open & close with no problems.

Good luck.

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

If your talking about the side and not the bottom....Do not shim to much at the very bottom of the door. Put your shim up behind the hinge. Or dont set the screw to hard/deep in the bottom hinge. What your doing is forcing the jam over towarss the knob to much and the door itself is not moving which makes it rub. If you set the top hinge screw in hard/deep it will pull it away at the bottom, as a fix. Just make sure it doesnt hit/rub the top then. You really dont need alot of shims.
