I was probably the biggest Harley basher around (I used to call them "mirror specs" and actually hunted them down on the super-charged valk)...until I actually owned one...and I can honestly say I get pumped about both bikes for different reasons...and the 1800 screaming eagle ultra is nothing to sneeze at, except the price...but hey the Canadian dollar was doing well in 2008 as it is now...all that being said, the best thing about my Harley is still having the Valk to go crazy on down the freeway...on long trips now I do appreciate the 8 speaker sound system, heated grips and seat, cruise ontrol and trunk...and the other best thing about the Harley is that it is not a Goldwing and has the best finished chrome around...but this year it will be the valk I bring to Insane, with ironically, a Goldwing alternator to drive all the extra toys!
PIBIT #34  Cool Cool And thanks Strider...hope we can hook up soon!

I make fun of the Harley riders.....not the Harley bikes so much....There are 5 couples my wife and i tour with and there are 3 Harley's , a Yamaha, and my Valkyrie.   You take away their comments about the Radio Active Rice Burners and the Yamahaha's and it wouldn't be any fun anymore......we pick at each other constantly....it's kind of fun....WHEN DID EVERYONE GET SO DANGED SINSITIVE?????

I had my brand bashed several times.. By my brother Union member. Don't affect me, I've had a lot of bikes and whatever I'm riding at the time is great!

Couple of years ago, I was in a gas station filling up.. Thre guys on Harleys pulled in..two were older guys like me on very nice Ultra's.  The other guy was on a chromed out Dyna and really clean ride.

They were across the pumps from me and we exchanged greetings and the Dyna guy was in my pump lane and blurted out, "I bet you think that thing is hot @#it don't ya, I'll take it any day, name the time and place.. I said, "You wanna race me?" He said, "Yeh, name the time and place."
I told him "How bout right now from here (Ohio)to Daytona and back!" HE NEVER SAID A WORD. His partner started laughing and told him that he'd bring the trailer if he needed it... We all had a laugh!

I said "Young man, I don't race but I do enjoy the ride.  You have a great bike and you're as proud as I am of my bike.  Let's go on down the road together and enjoy the day."

He came over and shook hands and we rode all day together..Ohio 555 my back yard.. They got a good look at the back of my IS. No more racing talk..

You're right, Jerry.  I sifted through the Rules of the Road and could find no specific item to apply although we do have an entry that prohibits "hateful and bashing comments ... especially those those aimed at sexual orientation, gender, race, color, religious views, national origin or disability.  I probably should have applied that prohibition rather than just saying I was "tired of it."  It's a grey area for certain.
so does "harley bashing" fall under the "disability" part? Roll Eyes

Willow, surely you saw this coming...

There's a difference between picking at each other amongst friends, and actually insulting folks simply to be rude.  When it comes to brand loyalty, I have seen both of these situations, on this site and in person.  I love good-natured banter as much as the next guy (probably more), but when it degrades into mindless "[insert your competitor's name here] sucks", it's boring and obnoxious.  I have been guilty of getting carried away with harley bashing past the point of banter, and have regretted it, because it added nothing intelligent or entertaining to the conversation, and it could have led to hard feelings.  I try to keep it to good natured banter, and if Willow deleted a thread, it probably was way past that, and added nothing to the community here.

Thank you Willow! I really appreciate that as the owner of a currently bashed Harley! (yes... still in the shop...4 weeks and counting!)

So you're the one responsible for the Harley bashing!   Angry

Actually.... that would be the hubby....he rear bashed me and is still trying to figure out how it's my fault..... tickedoff

May just be me, but I usually decide on if I want to share the wind with someone based on the person in the saddle - not on what's underneath it.  But that is just me.....[/color]

I'm with Strider on the above comment. I will bash a Harley rider once in a while,  (only when they deserve it of course) but not the bike itself.

But they would never send radioactive motorcycles here, would they.

I thought that was how they planned to do the new heated seats...  uglystupid2

I am plain bored with Harley bashing. Owned one, sold it. They are what they are, and you gotta admit, if imitation is the highest form of flattery then these are held in high regard. The are great looking and sound great as well.
I just like my Goldwings and Valkyires better, and I could care less what they, you or anyone else says about my choice.
My hope for all motorcyclists is that the love the sport/hobby and the people involved as much as I do.

And yet...and yet. Some guys just have to get the dig in.

This guy has it right in his eBay ad: "If you have a Harley you can sell your trailer and just ride the Valk everywhere."

Too funny. Smack in the middle of his description somewhere.

OK guys fess up: who's listing it? Item  290564591564

Agree with Strider on this.   I will ride with anyone, regardless of the brand of motorcycle.  Owned 7 Honda's before I switched to Harley.  I have enjoyed all 9 of my bikes.  Have/had likes and dislikes with all of them.  Bottom line for me is, my Harley Ultra in more comfortable for me than my Interstate was and I am happy with what I ride.

My longtime Valk riding partner and brother firefighter Lew just purchased a black 2011 HD Street Glide with the big motor option and blacked out instead of chrome and I have to tell you, it is a darn fine looking and riding motorcycle.
Like Strider says, as long as you ride, I don't give a hoot what it is. Just Ride.  cooldude

Lucky 13, Smokin Joe ,,Greg Smooth Rider,, Thunderbird Terry, Razor and Wife, saw a long line of mostly Harleys ride by.

Looked like about 50 or 60, guess what was right behind the whole pack.

A pickup with a empty trailer with Harley proudly stamped on it.

Did not help my ego one bit.

But Joe was grinning from ear to ear.

I just got home from an all day ride..... the end of the word ride. 2funny

Three of us.  One on a brand new beautiful Ducati Diavel, and the other a gorgeous new 103" Hog Street Glide with custom paint.  Three good riders, and we waved to everyone.  Both these guys were retired cops, one State the other Fed.

Man you have to see this Ducati to believe it.  240 rear tire and 162 HP, and it leans.... he was on break in so had to keep it at/below 6K RPM and 80mph  (LOL).

It is.............. and fly-by-wire throttle; no cable, the grip talks to the computer which talks to the throttle bodies.  Split radiator.  1200cc bike under 450 lbs.  Three riding modes, traction control.
Bunch of other stuff.  Costs as much as a house used to when we were kids.

Good call Willow.  Just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in.   Grin  Sort of miss the Valk, but I live on.  That Mustang with the top down is lots of fun, and I can carry anything I need in the trunk.  Too many aches and pains from the old crash to ride like I used to, so why try?  It is Ok to talk about the Valkyrie as the King of the cruisers.  Folks know what it is from a long way away.  Still one of a kind.  Keep em honest Willow.
